I made a mistake while choosing the size of a window bought from Lapeyre. Now I need to return it for a refund or a replacement of the right size. Their telephone is answered by a very fast talking French lady machine and I have no hope of following it. Does anyone know if they will deal with me if I just take it back without any initial contact. I am much better listening and speaking face to face? Thanks.

If it was fabriqué sur mesure then don't waste your time, if it was a standard stock size off the shelf there will probably be a restocking charge.
Going in will be the best for you, they will have to deal with you, I still prefer going in person, it's much harder for anyone to give me the bums rush face to face.

Not sure where in the country you are, but friends had to do the same, not being able to explain themselves in French, went to the Lapeyre shop and it was sorted. They use the speaking/translating google app a lot when they have trouble communicating with businesses etc.

I recently returned a window to Lapeyre in Poitiers and it was no problem at all, but the window was a standard size stock item and I exchanged it for a bathroom sink unit.
The guy that served me spoke perfect english, which was nice.

Many years ago we bought an internal door with glass panels from lapeyre. It was a year before I got round to fitting it. The door came in two widths, and it was only then that I discovered that I had been given the wrong size glass kit. I went back to the store and after the initial surprise they exchanged the glass kit for the correct size.

Thanks for all your comments. The window was one of their standard items ordered in from their website. I will certainly take it back early next week and maybe take my wife with me because she is pretty good speaking French. She could not keep up with their phone answering service. I will test the Google app today. We have had good reports on its usefulness.

If you bought from the website, I wonder if a local shop will accept it back and change it. I had a look on their website and it says you should return it and pay the postage. So presumably from somewhere central. Just a thought, but you will find out when you visit the shop.

That is a good point and one reason I wanted to speak to someone in the store, or online, to check the details. I opted to pick it up from the store to speed up the delivery so it should be possible to take it back to the same place. This does not of course preclude the chance of being asked to pay for the store delivery but I hope not. I will report back after my visit.

Today, Monday, I took the window to Lapeyre In Chateauroux armed with various French words that I thought would be useful. The first thing I asked politely was “Is there anybody here who speaks English?” (In French of course). The first person behind the counter immediately said “yes, I do”. From that point I felt comfortable about explaining the problem and asking for an exchange for the correct sized window. Everything went smoothly and she (the agent) was extremely helpful, knowledgable and understood exactly what I needed. I had to take the old window into the delivery bay where two men checked that it was in a good state. It was. Finally she organised the new delivery to arrive in store just before we return to France. There was no additional charge made and I left very pleased with the result. Customer Care was first class
