I've received text messages and emails from CA suggesting we use of the Ma Banque application. From September there will be more security (for that read difficulties) using their debit card to buying stuff online unless you have the Ma Banque app on your phone or pad.
I'm all for security so downloaded the app and that is about as far as I got. Tried several times to register it but it is so bugged it is all but impossible. There are a load of reviews on Google Play saying how useless it is. Why don't the programmers take note and get their act together. What a waste of time. Wrote to CA telling them as much.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has downloaded and registered the app.

Cannot comment about the CA app but it doesn't surprise me that it is considered useless. Our Bank (Bank Pop) tried the same tactic with us, so I looked their app up and found, like you and CA, that it is buggy and prone to freezing - amongst other things. So I went to the Bank (rare occurrence) and talked to the Manager who said I could ignore the blandishments about it becoming difficult to use a Bank card online etc as we can insist on continuing as present and be sent an sms with an authorisation code to our mobile as usual. I prefer to do my Banking via a pc/laptop or even tablet and not on the move with a buggy app. I can appreciate some people might find an app useful but I haven't reached that point yet. Viva Bolshie Retirees Edit : Good Luck with your App endeavours.

I told our councillor that we cannot use the app because there is no signal. They send the security code to our email address.

Credit Agricole did the same to me but of course I have no smartphone so the other alternative is that they give you a personal code which you then use in conjunction with the code they text/email you. Works fine for me.
If you have an account with CIC, there is no such simple alternative - my partner had to pay for a little gadget which you use to verify your access instead of the smartphone. It works ok but the bank manager was very keen to see how he got on, since he hadn't actually seen one of those before. His other customers without smartphones have reverted to cheques for payments, apparently!

I am with Banque Populaire. (I am not top with IT) Downloaded the app to my phone and it works smoothly. Not sure what the "clunky" and "buggy" means. No problems here.

I’m with CA and have been using the app for a year or so, I found it ok to setup, seems reliable and I have to auth stuff in the app when I use the card……

I didn't use the word 'clunky' .. not sure where you got that from. 'Buggy' means has bugs .. Perhaps, now that Bank Pop has become centralised, the refreshed App is better/smoother than the earlier one I researched. I do personally know BP customers who had problems with the App ..

I don’t yet see how their app is going to make online purchases any more secure than the current 3D checks. I’ve enough rubbish on my phone and so I decided to ignore it until there is real justification. I suspect they are using the security threat as an inducement and their real motive is to create another presence for themselves on my phone and then try to sell more.

Quite so I do wonder if some of the problem is poor mobile coverage in the areas where some clients are trying to use the app .. people in large towns are perhaps going to fare better in this regard. Plus, just a thought but, I do understand from my son that most UK Banking apps are quite outstandingly good .. so if a comparison is being made then some French Banking apps might not match up to the competition.

I get what you mean about poor mobile coverage but there is a new mast just been brought into service near us and we now have excellent coverage so that is not an issue. Can't fault our NatWest App.

I use both BP and Barclays Apps. Over time the Barclays App has improved to the point that it is probably equally as good as the French one but it has never been better in any way.
