Thanks, that has explained several things that have always bemused me, like the river valley with a spring at the top of the hill beside, it's the highest hill for a long way.

Shower together, save half the water! The snag with that is it could lead to other things and you might have to have another shower

We live in one of the wettest regions in France so not usually necessary. We’ve had to pump our overflowing well out in previous years. Sadly, Global warming is really kicking in now… If it is overflowing where do you pump it to?
And would it not just make its way straight back through the soil?
Into the ditch in front of the house where all the other water drainage goes from the houses along our road (septic tanks etc) . The water table is (was!) very high in our little area.

yep , what can I say Jackie , if " they " had listened...... It is now too late . I have stopped worrying , live for today .
Bof! Let's wait and see what happens next year, hein? It could be the wettest summer on record....you just never know! Not I houpla , I don't wait to see what happens .
There is going to be a lack of water every year , even if it rains all Winter it won't raise the water table enough.
When it rains now most just runs off and goes into the sea via the rivers because it pours . We have our water because I didn't wait to see. Watch the UK news , they are waiting to see the crops failing, the same here in France .

There is going to be a lack of water every year Using your own words - it never rains but it pours! I never had you down as a pessimist, I agree with all that you say aside from the above.

Don't get me mixed up with those that are all doom and gloom , I'm certainly not a pessimist , more like a realist ( some call me a prophet ! ) we live very close to nature here , and see what is happening .
I bought this property all those years ago because water is what we all need to live and here we have plenty. I am feeding my sheep on hay now, the grass won't start growing again for a while , cattle farmers are doing the same, the maize in the farmers field next to us has all died.
No , I am not a pessimist , but I don't play violin either.
"it never rains but it pours!" and then it runs off!

We are restricted to watering veg only, after 8pm and before 8 am, regardless of where the water comes from. We are also forbidden to take water from the local river. Not quite true. You can use rainwater that you have collected to do whatever you want with. It is drinking water and well water that is limited. Our 50 cubic metre rainwater collection bag has so far lasted, despite an accidental emptying. This mornings rain has meant it has doubled again, so should give us enough to water for the rest of the summer. That said, it is better to water after 8pm and before 8am anyway.

You're right. I should have qualified that recuperated water can be used for anything. We have a well but this year the drought has meant it struggles to provide more than 10 minutes of low pressure water, whereas in years gone by it would go on for a couple of hours a day. For this reason we have never collected water. Maybe that will change.

Bof! Let's wait and see what happens next year, hein? It could be the wettest summer on record....you just never know! Yes, it might be but the overlying trend is that there are going to be more dry summers like this one due to the expansion of the Azores high which is being driven by man-made climate change. The science is there whether we choose to bury our heads in the sand about it or not. So ‘bof!’ right back at ‘ya! 🙂

the maize in the farmers field next to us has all died. I can reach out of the caravan window over the fence and reach the maize planted, the farmer is very downcast about it. I can't actually because that would mean opening the mosquito screen and being bitten alive by Tiger Mozzies, they are loving climate change! Overnight to get out of the rain they invaded the caravan awning and the sous-sol, I had to react to the roof collapsing under the weight of water (only put up yesterday and there are issues with a missing wall section) and left the door open so the caravan became full, normally they dont start biting before 17.00 but this has put them into a feeding frenzy, the only respite is walking around in the rain on the first day ever that the sous-sol and caravan are at a comfortable temperature.

Waste of water to make the cement and I'll bet they drove there as well.

Well done Extinction Rebellion. People can’t water their vegetable gardens but golf courses must stay green. A lot of older people here in Brittany are on low agricultural pensions and probably grow vegetables to help save money. What a crazy world….

Our golf course cannot water the greens.
