After 4 weeks we've finally had a devis to repair our 13 year Yardman.
It needs a new engine New blades And oil
Quote €2,000.
A bit of a shock. So don't think we'll be getting it fixed.
Yardman don't exist anymore but I think the replacement is a Cup Cadet.
Recommendations please of places to buy a new mower. Rural Master don't seem to have a big selection neither do Gamm Vert or Brico

Do you have any local "motoculture" places? Around here they tend to have a good range....

Leroy merlin €1100 works OK, tight turning circle, 97cm cut, MTD or MDF or something. Better than my last McCullock at €998.

If the engine is ever beyond repair I would pick up a secondhand one for less than €200 and slap it in myself. €50 would cover new blades and oil. No. Tell a lie. I have a couple of spare running engines in the shed. You've had bad luck. Usually the deck goes before the engines ever do.

Unless the diagnosis is not accurate, I can vouch for what you say though, the pan on our Honda Izy is rusted through, engine is tickety boo……

We had to replace our beloved Bestgreen this year. Leroy Merlin MTD (top of the range, ex-display) 632cc, 102cm cut came out at €1500. It's absolute crap compared to the old one, and certainly won't last 16 years, but hey-ho....by then we'll be using it as a glorified mobility scooter anyway If only Stiga didn't insist on a vile yellow paintjob, I would have gone for one of those.... So, basically it's a choice between local motoculture places and bricos, and Facebook ex-pat small-ad pages if you don't mind 2nd hand Husqvarna etc..

OH thinks we should have it repaired as it will come back with guarantees for the bits changed, and a decent machine of the same calibre would be over 3000.
Sadly we differ because he believes in paying for the best whereas I'm happy to get one that just does the job. Although he's great at many jobs around the house, anything to do with the engineering side, is beyond his capabilities. Now these people have done a diagnostic, if we took it away we would still have to pay for the work already done.
I will start looking though for comparisons.

They paint 'em 'vile yellow' so they're easy to find in a large garden.I've had mine for 10 years & not lost it yet. Best ride on I've ever had & worth every cent of the €3,000 I paid. Built to last by an associate company of Stihl.Edit dunno what's happened here?
What happened was that you typed inside the quote box, fixed it now - FFS

I had mine delivered 16 April this year, but I apologise for giving the rather inaccurate price, I just looked up the invoice. €1099 plus €49.90 delivery. it is an MTD 96 TH96 383 cc engine. It is a bit low on power, but gets up the steep inclines on my grass OK. It should last at least 10 years, then it's on the bon coin for half price like the last one.

My Stiga is built like a tank & after ten years of abuse still runs like a good'un with absolutely no rusting deck problems. Mind you it is a Villa 14 HST frontal cutting machine so no comparison with the machine you've linked to. If you've tall weeds to deal with I highly recommend a Stiga frontal cutting machine. It'll deal with high/low/wet/dry/grass/weeds if operated correctly & can be used as a mulching/straight though machine by the simple removal of a bar. Deck cleaning & blade sharpening is simple as cutting deck folds into vertical position.
Have a look at some of the videos on youtube.

We don't normally have the grass/weeds like this, it's only because the mower broke 4 weeks ago. Thanks for the recommendation

I think the bad luck was not the mower, it was picking a rip off merchant.

A guy on the other side of the hill from me in the UK buys ride on mowers on e-bay and advertise's them in France at twice the price, and people come from all over France to buy/collect them, unseen.
