I would like to know if a person has acquired a valid VLS-T (Visiteur) visa in order to stay longer than three months at a time, is it possible to return to UK for a short period within the visas life without affecting the validity of the visa. This is the type of information best coming from an experienced traveller or someone with a good insight into the EU rules. Thanks.

I have also asked the same question a while back, and no one seems to know Someone must though, its just finding them

My (UK) friends applied for and rec'd a 6 month Visa each valid from April to October 2022. They said it was a nightmare to obtain with multiple visits necessary before every i was dotted etc. I don't know the exact name/nature of their Visa just that it allowed them to return to the UK whenever they liked. This was of prime importance for them as he likes watching the Cricket in person and she drives back to the UK, collects various grandchildren and returns here with them during the school holidays. They are both in the UK at present until the beginning of the new school year.
Edit : The Visa has to be shown whenever they need to show their passport so that it is not stamped at each border.

"Regulations and types of visas vary according to both the duration and purpose of stay in France's European or non-European territories."
From the French visa site.

When you next speak to them Sue, I would love to know what type of visa it was and why they only did 6 months and not a year...... Although technically retired they both 'help out' in a financial business they founded together in the UK which one of their daughters now runs. The business premises are in a part of their large house (they had 5 children) so the tax implications of taking a year long visa were looked into and decided against. The six month visa plus the legal 3 months in every 180 days seems to be working well so far. It was just the hassle of obtaining the 6 month visa impacted greatly on them .. and they are both sticklers for paperwork. They are hoping that applying for next year's visas might prove less onerous.

Can they apply for a titre de sejour visiteur on that visa Sue? I don't know but I would assume not.
I do know it was explained to them that the Visa they have precludes working - even remotely - which suits them just fine.
Tho apparently just 'checking in' to the Office is tolerated .. my son does that when he is with us on holiday - but actually working here is a big no-no.

If only there was a system whereby we could avoid all the red tape.

Thank you for that useful information. Their situation seems to cover what our friends need. I have of course visited the official French sites and studied the rules and regulations which are applicable but I would still appreciate any personal, practical experiences of applying for and using the visa. At the moment all the evidence is that it is a complex procedure and I am not convinced that my friends will be able to manage to achieve what they want. I am glad it is not for us but I will continue to try to sort it out. Perhaps someone or an organisation will publish an idiots guide to applying for what must be a desirable visa and how it can be used. Thanks to everyone.

Indeed thank you for all the info in this thread, I have also read many 'official' sites on what is available, but its not easy to follow and some information I need is not obvious on the sites, hence why speaking third hand to someone who has actually done it is very useful indeed.

The VLS-T is valid for 6 months and is not renewable, and you cannot do any work in France (including remote working). The VLS-TS (there are different types e.g. work, inactive etc) is valid for 12 months and is renewable, provided it has been validated within the first 3 months. With VLS-TS Visa you cannot be out of France for more than 2 months each year, or if renewed each year for 5 years, then the maximum period out of France is 10 months for the whole 5 years. With either you can come and go as you please during the validity of the visa.
The easy way to remember them is VLS-T (Touriste), VLS-TS (Titre De Séjour).
