We recently bought a new Tondeuse Autoporte from our local Bricomarche. Our existing mower was bought from some returning to UK friends about ten years ago for 200€. I have used it happily on our grass from that time and it only needed a few mechanical tweaks to keep it running. We bought a few extra plots of land and the little mower was at its limit to allow me to do a full mow in under three hours. The new mower covers the same task in under two hours. Yesterday I visited a local, one man, repair shop who specialised in mowers and asked him if he wanted to buy one. This morning he arrived to view it and after a quick test drive and inspection we loaded it onto his trailer, exchanged it for some euros and off they went. He seemed pleased and so am I.

Iam due to replace our 17 year old MTD this winter, but will take the deck off and attach the trailer to it so DW can follow me around the garden.

That is a great idea! Please explain about DW riding after you in the garden. I have imagined a few possibilities. My old machine still had plenty of cutting life in it.

I am in the market for one if anyone is selling, happy to take on something that needs fixing up, new motor, deck welding etc, in fact thats preferable.
Not sure what MTD stands for though but I think y'all are talking about ride on mowers.

One of the brands that seems to share components or makes loads of mowers identical apart from different badges and colours. MTD, Yard-Man, White Outdoor, Yard Machines, Craftsman, Troy-built, Bolens, Remington, Robomow, etc. all share parts distribution or are made by MTD. Much the same as Electrolux seems to be behind the majority of home electrical appliances.

Bricolage” but the machine was manufactured by Electrolux. It was the base machine for several other brands at that time. I located and downloaded the full handbook showing the complete, detailed drawings and used it to help sort out minor mechanical problems.

You are not wrong. Some time ago MTD became part of the Electrolux group. I've never been over happy about larger and larger companies having monopolies on industry around the world. Maybe some sort of standardisation is a good thing but price fixing is often the result.
But anomalies still exist. A huge number of the ride on mowers use Briggs and Stratton engines. B&S use US fractional inch fasteners and US thread pitch geometry. The chassis and most of the rest of the device uses metric. Bonkers.

The same as 1970's Ford vehicles, bellhousing bolt threads metric, starter motor bolts were UNC because Lucas had yet to adopt the metric system. Most of the engine threads were still UNC/UNF as the castings dated back to the 60's, it was still the case with some Fiestas in the 90's using the X/flow engine block.
