Have " we" had enough now ? Can we get back to the financial, environmental and war catastrophes? Do not forget slagging off the British government!🐗 Not something a thinking person is likely to forget.

I notice that England complained about it.
Just think, tonight I will be reunited with that sceptered land. as a precaution I will be taking a supply of masks and some betadine antisceptic .

Here's a thought for the royalists ! What if the late Queen had decided to be buried in her garden in Scotland, and kept it quiet ? ( a bit like king charles and queen camilla ) The same adoration of aan oak box which would never ever be discovered to be empty ?

I've known the outline of the London Bridge plan for a long time, for decades. Probably not back to school days but early in my adult life. Have spent a couple of days in a home where the telly is on dawn to dusk and it was wall to wall royal coverage. OTT coverage. Even as a republican I recognise the significance of the moment but some of the stuff I've seen is beyond cringe worthy. It occurred to me that the TV part of op London Bridge should have been revised to take account of 24/7 telly. I feel fortunate, however, not to have missed these two events. A man in the studio with a corgi being interviewed because his dog was in some way related to one of the Queen's. A young fashion expert, on the couch with Willy Holloughby and Phil Schoffield, proffering opinion on some of HM's dresses that were twice her age. Fair enough. The delight for me was Schoffield, leaning forward palms together between his knees, an expressionless face and his gaze seemingly fixed on every word this young lady uttered. I thought, what is actually going on in his head, is he really interested or is perhaps thinking what to pick up from the shops on the way home? Then he blurted out "And accessories?" Someone, surely, in the gallery prompted that. Chewing gum for the brain doesn't cover it. Nevertheless that will always be one of my favourite TV moments.

You're suggesting of course that Liz was just like us and had personal choice.

One of the things that has struck me is the number of people paying their respects who have travelled from or originate from countries invaded by GB in the time of Empire and colonialism, in addition to that there are also many others who are from countries that have direct no connection with the country whatsoever. I can only assume they are there out of respect for the person and not for the love of the monarchy itself.

Yes there seems to be quite a quota of ethnic minorities . I think for most it is respect for the queen with a touch of tourism and looking at the uniforms and pagentry of passed glory. It will be interesting to see which way the crowds go when the funeral is over and reality kicks back in .

There was a professor of something-or-other on LBC this morning telling about an extensive survey being conducted of people in the queue. Trying to determine the reasons for people being there. Early results are showing that they are not going there to mourn. And that the majority are small "c" conservatives but that is likely to be due to easier access to those living in the southeast.

Posts discussing Eire/Ireland have been unbundled from this thread and moved to a thread of their own - Eire/Ireland - in The Snug.
