Are they rare or relatively common? I saw my first two a week past on Monday in Scotland then my first in France today. Do I maybe go around with my eyes closed.

Their popularity is directly proportional to the average number of idiots among they general public. they have been influenced by the media and do not realise they have been had. I have seen several in la Creuse and mostly driven by Dutch who generally try to keep up with the deJongs.

There are loads around and have been for a long time, like you I asked myself had I been goinga round with my eyes closed.
Initially and perhaps still they were/are too anonymous to be instantly recognised but once you do you will see just how many there are around. If you look at the new car sales figures you might get a surprise.
My first recognition was a car following me on the autoroute with a very low bonnet line, all modern cars have got higher and higher, initially I thought it was a 90's Honda which had very low bonnet lines but its a certain Tesla model, dont know which one but thats the instant recognition characteristic.
There is another bigger Tesla that looks like the rear end of an Elephant, it's like a car perched on top of a trailer load of batteries.
As their network of fast charging stations is in the main cities and by the autoroutes there will be a lot less in La France profonde, I see a lot in the Dordogne but they are always holidaymakers, either Parisiens or Dutch in the main.

@ pcpa, Tesla, official statistics, The Netherlands: Number sold (2012 to 2022) 63,988; Total active registrations 62,272. More information: The Netherlands currently has some 81,000 public charging stations, more than 3,000 of which are fast chargers, the largest charging density in Europe. Surprise, surprise when they arrive in la France profonde....No problem for a plug-in hybrid, all electric is not that easy.

Our friend has had a Tesla for a few years and loves it. He has travelled all over Europe without problems and using Tesla charging points are free. Not sure if that applies to new purchases. What's not to like?

Lidl in my old town ripped out all the electric charging points this week, it looks like they have poured foundations for new ones but I am betting that they wont be free anymore and will be premium priced fast chargers, maybe even Tesla compatible.

I think new Tesla owners pay for charging but my friend got free charging about 5 years ago when he bought the car

Our son-in-law has had a Tesla for a few years too, at least 5, and loves his too, hasn’t had any problems and rsrely has to pay to charge it when away from home. I find it rather low to get in and out of, rather like our old Porsche, which we ended up selling when our increasingly creaky knees and backs meant we rarely used it. A hotel we regularly stayed at in France when we used to drive down to our apartment and back had a Tesla charging point installed; not far from the motorway, it was very popular.

They are very common here in central UK, there are 3 in our group of 24 houses, cables sticking out of garages, the owners all seem so smug and are quick to explain why they bought/justify them but interestingly one travelled with his family to the south of France this summer and took their "other" car.
Edit- I agree with Chancer, they do look like dated 80/90's cars or one of those concept cars that never seemed to go into production or looked completely tamed version of the concept car.

I started to read through an article in today’s Sunday Times and found this table. I find it a rather useless illustration of charger density since it is related to the number of eve in a particular country which could be very low. This is probably why NZ looks so good. I can’t afford the £50k needed to buy a new Tesla, or any other brand, and will probably be still waiting for a cheap used one when I stop driving. Current standings
Number of charging points per electric vehicles, by country
New Zealand 57 Iceland 37.6 Denmark 35.5 Norway 33.6 India 31.9 Brazil 27.6 Germany 25.8 Sweden 21.9 United Kingdom 21 Australia 20.7 Spain 20.1 Canada 19.9 Portugal 19.2 United States 18.2 Switzerland 17.5 Europe 15.5 Thailand 15.4 Finland 15.3 France 14.7 Belgium 13.7 Japan 11.9 Italy 10.9 Poland 10.3 World 9.5 Indonesia 9.2 Greece 8.6 Mexico 8.6 China 7.2 South Africa 6 Netherlands 4.6 Chile 3.9 Korea

Number of charging points per electric vehicles?
I think you need to define what that measure means.
Taking France it sure aint 14.7 charging points for each EV nor is it 14.7 EV's for each charge point.
And what is a charge point? A public charging station or does it include home charging bornes?

And a cheap one will no doubt have a knackered battery. (insert laughing smiley here)
