Just a little correction, it is EIIR, as I doubt any of us will remember Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 1603.

The sheer scale and precision of the funeral was extraordinary as was the global interest with nearly half the world's population watching all or part of the event.

I have been working on a friends car today so only caught a little of the ceremony when I stopped for a late lunch. The tv was on SKY all very impressive. Only minimal talking and often long silences with just the music. You could feel you were there. Had a glance at french tv and there was a split screen with three people talking and a view of the proceedings and no music. What a difference.

I watched on BBC 1 and the only fault I could find was the commentator saying Emma the Queen's pony waiting at Windsor Castle was a Highland, when it's well known that the Queen has been a lifelong lover of Fell ponies. Other than that the coverage was excellent as were the entire proceedings. Talk about military precision.... The funeral plans were all there ready on paper for years, but putting something of that magnitude into action in 11 days was amazing.

I watched a lot throughout today, popping in and out as I had things to do. Started with BBC but got fed up with the 'team' talking over camera footage of the cortege so I switched to ITV .. such a relief as there was minimal chatting except when an explanation from an expert was required.
Genuinely I found the coverage was astoundingly good.
I turned on again later to listen to the service from Windsor .. which I preferred. The removal of the orb, sceptre and crown from the coffin brought QE11's reign to an end, it was a poignant moment.

I watched part of the Abbey ceremony and all of the Windsor ceremony and thought the music and the huge ceremonial parts were fantastically well done.
I particularly enjoyed the simpler Windsor occasion and was moved when the orb, sceptre and crown were ceremoniously removed from the Queen’s coffin.
The baton has passed to King Charles; I wish him well but he has a huge mountain to climb following his mother’s exemplary reign. I hope the poor man can get at least some rest from his grief, all that walking, shaking hands and being constantly on display.

If only. There will be even more people coming out from under rocks to comment and repeats and clips and documentaries for weeks yet. I doubt the arrival of aliens would get any more coverage. So glad I have my music to escape into until its truly finished.

Much better to watch it on YT afterwards. You can fast forward the bits with bagpipes

Very well choreographed but then they had been practising for a while . It shows where the masses of the British public are in their way of thinking of how the UK is .The governement and ruling class is completly out of touch with reality and I am sure this will be mirrored in what will happen this coming Winter. State funeral ? We noticed that it was actually a military funeral , probably because the empire ,that is no more, was based on military might and subjection of masses of people and countries . Hence the royal term , " my subjects"
An interesting piece of theatrical television.
