This is a Staff notice .. As we are a free forum we have a limited amount of storage available to us. In order not to breach this limit pruning of some large attachments associated with some posts needs to take place. Some pruning has already taken place and this pruning will continue to be necessary from time to time. There is nothing personal in the choice of threads/posts or attachments removed .. the pruning is simply to safeguard continued availability of forum space.
Unfortunately it is proving impossible to keep all posts permanently.

Not a great deal of merit in keeping all posts permanently. Much of the information becomes either out of date or irrelevant after a time anyway.

IIRC one of the previous incarnations of the forum required large files like videos and photos to be hosted on another site and links posted to them so that they didn't use up memory on the forum database.

I can understand the storage issue but for just 100 euros a year you can have a setup like TNFF had with unlimited storage super fast access simple to load files and photos and no resizing issues. A couple of nights ago I tried loading some files and it kept getting rejected saying files were too large. We had loads of pictures of Strasbourg and renovation pics plus if members were not bored with that three new bargain properties under 8000 from the tax office.

Whatever is required will just have to happen. Thanks for the work to keep this site going. 💐

Thanks, Sue and the team. On the bright side, pruning out and limiting file sizes and large quantities of uploads does prevent the site from being taken over for commercial purposes Will a lot of the Jokes thread be disappearing?

Will a lot of the Jokes thread be disappearing? Regretfully some jokes with large attachments have already had to go. As have some photos.
I will do my best to keep as much of interest as possible but please help if you can by keeping your attachments as small as you can

I can think of a fitting joke but I will resist given the sensitive nature that prevails here.

Yes OK .. but who exactly is going to pay the 100€+ a year ? On here we three staff are 'minding the store' for Mark .. it's a tricky situation at present so bear with us.

I was not criticizing the way you are running the forum far from it. Just saying for not a lot of money you could have a site that has unlimited storage and would probably atract new members. We have a lot of interesting work going on just now which Im fairly sure would be of interest to some. When FFS comes back it might be worth asking the members what they are looking for. Im fairly sure someone could come up with 100 euros.

I thought that size did not count. It does now! But that doesn't mean that we can let up on technique....
