As it says our garden in Brittany has a very well established laurel hedge of approx 150m, parts of it are now (since the pandemic) 3.5m tall by up to 3m wide, reducing down to 2.4m tall x 1.5m wide.
A hedge trimmer and chain saw could do it but it would take ages, my question is, are there companies in France who would hire out a mini tractor/tractor with a flail attachment that I could do the job in a couple of days.
Do you know of anyone in dept 22 who has the kit and could do the work or rent it to me.
We are in Bourseul (22130) just of the N176, near to Dinan.

Cheers Hal, when I posed the same question to my OH, she found the same place, it seems like €100 an hour for an operator, tractor and flail attachment plus €180 for the round trip, so maybe 6 hours and delivery could be sub €1000, much lower than the €2800 quote I have been given but with the first I will have to dispose of the cut laurel but I have a 6m3 trailer cage. So a few trips to the tip. I will try finding someone more local but good to know there are Co. out there that can do it |

Our paysagiste cuts our pyrocantha hedge twice a year and gets rid of all the cuttings as well.

Our paysagiste cuts our pyrocantha hedge twice a year and gets rid of all the cuttings as well. It was a local paysagiste that quoted €2800. Since Brexit all the Expats doing garden maintenance have either gone back to the UK or been absorbed into French companies. There was once a good website called AnglInfo Brittany, where people used to advertise their services and businesses but a look on there recently only showed tumble weed rolling by. If anyone has any recommendations for people who do this kind of work would be appreciated. We are in Bourseul (Dept 22 Brittany), 15 mins from Dinan. |

Do you know of anyone in dept 22 who has the kit and could do the work or rent it to me I have been tackling what may have one time been a Laurel or some other kind of hedge but with decades of neglect it is now nothing but ronces and lierre, to my surprise once cut back to the remains of its original species it still has the form of a haie, I had intended ripping it all out. Anyway my suggestion is what a neighbour of mine said to me earlier in the year that i was just too late for, the commune had been round with their tractor and attachment doing all the verges (it may have been a sub contractor or local farmer) he said the guy was a mate of his and he would have done mine as he was passing. So my suggestion is to get chatting to one of the cantonniers and see what they do or who they use. |

Great suggestions AJM and PCPA, a trip to the local Mayor when we are next there in 13 days is a good idea if I don't get it sorted before, I really want a solution going forward, the friends that usually help me are without really noticing are getting too old for the work and they have there own 'jobs' at home and although I know they would offer it is a good 4 days work with the clearing away to the decheterie.
