Following on from a comment on another thread.
In our new house I currently plan to do the following:
Install an ensuite shower room in what we think will be our master bedroom.
Temporarily create a "kitchen" in one of the bedrooms.
Demolish internally the existing kitchen.
Demolish internally the existing bathroom.
Demolish the wall between the two.
Remove all the floor tiles in the two rooms and lay a new floor (tiles).
Increase the existing bathroom window size.
Fit new kitchen.
Remove temporary kitchen and create new bathroom in that room.
Rewire as I go along and redecorate throughout.
Turn three rooms downstairs into an apartment.
So, as in the title, redecoration or renovation?

And critically, enlarging that bathroom window will subject you to the relevant planning application forms that could prompt an increase in taxation if they haven't already been reviewed in recent years. Also the conversion into an apartment sounds risky in that respect.

Was any of it in such a poor state that it needed doing? Would the house have sold for a significantly higher price had these areas been in good decorative order and the changes made? (ignore the sous-sol conversion in that question). In French terms is probably amélioration or transformation, retapé really . Hopefully the bathroom is at the rear and the increase in window size will be ni vu, ni connu, sous-sol aside nothing you are doing should result in an increase in taxes after filling out an H1, as the sous-sol had not yet been converted I doubt anything had been underdeclared. Yet! What is the floor construction between sous-sol and étage?

Well done to JD for answering the question 👏. Thanks for all the unsolicited advice anyway 👍.
The house is perfectly liveable (apart from the wiring) but I really don't want a blue bathroom suite with blue floor tiles 🤮. The kitchen is very small and once extended into the bathroom will be a lovely kitchen/diner. The floor construction of block and beam is ideal for my plans.
Downstairs is already half way to being a self contained unit, ideal for AirBnB. The rest is my vast garage and workshop 😀
As pcpa says ni vu, ni connu.

I like the word remodel as it is more in keeping with what people do inside their houses, renovation ,imo is everything out and redone thats plaster, wire, plumbing ,wood etc etc. redecoration is what it says add paint clean it up.

Well done to JD for answering the question 👏. Thanks for all the unsolicited advice anyway 👍. Had I known that you only wanted a certain specific answer (renovation) I would not have responded, why ask the question in the first place, was it for validation? none of the work you mentioned would be classed by anyone as decoration although it will have included it.

So far 3:1 in favour of my calling it renovation. I'd be interested to know what pcpas definition of renovation is. Once the wallpaper is removed there may yet be some replastering.

The question was specifically redecoration or renovation. And I answered your points regardless. 🤔

I was reading an article about a couple supposedly living off grid in a Yurt in the Sonoma desert, I say supposedly as they dont have water or heating, more like putting up a tent and camping for the summer so far. Anyway after taking 3 weeks to put up their Yurt (the Monguls do it in a few hours including all their furniture and possessions) they then "took a full year of renovation to convert the yurt into a livable space with a functioning bathroom and kitchen" So put together an Ikea bookcase = renovation, paint old furniture with Farrow & Ball chalk paint = renovation

How can you have a 'functioning bathroom and kitchen' without water..heated or not? We spent a couple of weeks in the caravan here before any water or electricity connection, but cooking with mineral water and washing in melted snow water was improvising, hardly functioning!

Where's the new kitchen? a lot of work, get another house. At the back if the house. Personally I don't consider it too much work, but I am a mere slip of a 58 yo lad.
