How about a top ten Pink Floyd list ? Isn't that a bit narrow?

Not really. I could make a top ten of loads of bands plus classical composers etc. I would find it impossible to choose ten pieces of favourite music. What I could do is choose ten pieces of music which had a meaningful affect on my life over the years, which was the original concept of Desert Island Discs.

Bought my first Pink Floyd single in the old days "Arnold Lane" and I think "Interstellar overdrive" Have owned every one of their albums, sadly gone now, but have replaced now with CDs. They are meaningful for myself and wife of 43yrs, we regularly watch and listen on "You Tube" very loud

PF are iconic and the impact they had on many teenagers like me was amazing. Others, who were into the more ‘chart music’ scene thought I was a weirdo ! I think Astronomy Domine changed my musical outlook and added a new dimension to my music appreciation. I had a similar experience with other bands.

I haven’t been able to settle on 10 tracks as all time favourites so my contribution will be to name 10 favourite artists instead.
Eric Clapton Pink Floyd Rolling Stones Steppenwolf Tina Turner Aretha Franklin Bad Company Traffic Miles Davis Wes Montgomery

After a page or two we'll start to get lists of 10 obscure recordings to demonstrate the eclectic knowledge of the poster. Until then, though: The Beatles - Golden Slumbers The Carpenters - Goodbye to Love Pink - What About Us 4 non Blondes - What's Up The Ataris - Boys of Summer Billy Ocean - Red Light Spells Danger Derek and the Dominoes - Layla (album version) Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile Van Morrison - Queen of the Slipstream Sibelius - Finlandia Very interesting range of styles there. People hardly ever mention The Carpenters. Karen was my first wife's best friend, we all went to the same school. The three of us and my mate Don formed a band called the Aardvarks, the inspiration for my username here. Unforgettable was being there at A&M studios in Hollywood while Richard and Karen did the final mix on Close To You. Heard it so many times I couldn't get it out of my head for months after.

Wholly under-rated was Miss Carpenter. What a voice. In fact, the Carpenters seem to have escaped the hagiography of 70s superstars and, to me, that's indefensible. A real class act.

The Osmonds did some good stuff. The best thing they did was to retire.
