The Cheesemaker mentioned was fortunate that he could marry-up with a bigger firm that had a European hub in the Netherlands otherwise I feel it might have been very difficult, nay impossible, for him to maintain his current level of employés.
Regretfully the Brexit treaty only appears to bother about large firms .. small firms can seemingly go hang.

I read that but was a little confused, did the UK have a choice in continuing to allow EU citizens to visit on with an ID card as opposed to a passport?
The other thing that surprised me was how few Germans have passports.

The other thing that surprised me was how few Germans have passports. If course the UK had the choice as to whether it accepted ID cards or not - the benefits of sovereignty and setting your own rules. As to Germans and their passports - history suggests they never saw them as necessary - whoops sorry perhaps I should not have mentioned that.

Yes the UK could have let EU citizens with ID cards enter, but chose not to, probably because UK doesn't have ID cards. Many people in the EU "only" have an ID card because you don't need a passport ( below 30 days) to travel as EU citizen in the EU . Sorry exile, cross posting !

So another Brexit non-benefit: decline in number of EU visitors to UK especially from France and Germany. It seems 50% of French travellers have ID cards rather than passports so are now deterred from visiting. www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/apr/08/french-and-german-tourists-turn-their-back-on-brexit-britain
