I have seen the little Citroen in a car park locally. Trust me, it is even more hideously ugly in person than it is in the photos. I checked the prices of the Aixam in the link. From €9800 to €19800. Begs the question why anyone would spend that sort of cash on a two-cylinder noisy engined slug with no street cred. Little more than roadkill with wheels.

He probably refused to pay for insurance after buying the vehicle, knowing the premiums I bet many are not insured, they may be driven by incompetents and incoherents but they are not driven by hoons and I doubt the Gendarmes choose to stop them very often.
My adorable elderly next door neighbour has made his own VSP/mobility scooter, he has a flashy chrome 70's ride on lawm mower with the cutting deck removed, it has a large basket on the back and for when he needs bags of cement or placo or just to amuse the grandchildren he has a trailer as well, you hear him well before you see him!
He has a gyrophare on it active all the time the engine is running, he is too canny to have insurance on it.
In the future when the time comes I am going to do exactly the same in his memory, who knows he might even leave me his machine to store for such a day!

A bit like some CGI special effect where a car is being driven through a liquid mirror.

The Citroen Ami seemed interesting especially when I saw hire for 19.99€ per month. But that's after a first month's rent of 3844€! I think if the wait on the ANTS website is not so long now I'll make do with walking and occasional lifts. Glad to have this choice. If I was still living in the countryside I'd have to find another solution.

If you include everything in the initial application they are coming through quite quickly now. Thanks for this. Can you tell me at what point in the process they give you an attestation?

When they ask you to send in your UK licence. You download a letter to send it off with and an attestation.

Just for interest, insurance was more reasonable than I anticipated. 373€ fully comp for this car. www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/2236034612.htm

I think it was taking a long time initially but it seems the turn around is much quicker now especially if they don't have to ask you to send in any extra info - ie you send everything necessary with the application.
I've just reminded myself of the time line for my friend. We applied 7th Oct, sent birth cert in 25 Oct, message to send in UK licence and download the attestation which authorises you to drive 17 Nov. So approx 6 weeks.
