If you wanna get publicity make claims of racism even if they are, well, less than verifiable. Gets you in with your community, keeps the charity funds rolling in. On the other hand, the godmother should have said nowt, maybe she was a bit pissed?

Mandu Reid might disagree with the less than verifiable comment Wooly.

aw come on , the lady was 83 years old , probably a little mixed up? But it has to be made into a major catastrophe !
"The Sistah Space is a specialist charity that supports African & Caribbean heritage women affected by domestic and sexual abuse, UK wide."
THAT sounds a bit racist to me ? Only for African and Caribbean ladies !
By analogy then all the charities working for displaced Ukrainians are also racist - but of course that's nonsense because Ukrainians are white. Added to that I have read their own commentary and those reported elsewhere and the one place I can find that their work is "only" for African and Caribbean ladies is your post.

Splitting heirs again. whatever happened to these ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curly_WurlyI think it could be a good thing that the Algonquians tended not to go in for this nonsense. Anyone ever heard of anyone being Charged with word-bending?

The old biddy was being racist but probably wasn't aware until it was pointed out to her and even then may not have believed it.

Why is it racist to ask someone what their family origin is?
I agree that in the current world where putting yourself up as a victim is feted it was unwise to have asked.

What is the relevance of the question and why persist with a line of questioning that bordered on an interrogation and clearly made someone uncomfortable? As a Lady in Waiting she would have been used to meeting people of all colours and creeds so it seems bizarre that she behaved like that.

Sorry , but not a good comparison , Ukrain is a country . I visited their charity website and quoted what was on there, I think it is obvious.

Because once you have been told that you are born in Britain and are British that really should be the end of the story. To ask again is frankly rather insulting and suggests you do not believe the answer given.

Luckily , I am not an 83 year old friend of the dead queen , so don't get nailed to a post by the " woke" community ( and the media).
I have quite often asked those with darker skins ( in France) about their ancestors, I don't see that as interrogation , just interest and conversation.

I did not find it and I am pretty sure that the charities commission would not grant charity status unless there was inclusivity - certainly our experience when my club applied for charitable status.

I agree, if someone responded in that way I would apologise for having asked.
But did it actually happen that way? We have only heard one side of the story from someone with either a chip on their shoulder or an agenda.
If an 87 year old were to have asked me something that made me feel uncomfortable in my 20's or 30's I would not say that they need re-educating.
I don't accept the allegations that she did not believe the person was born in Britain or was a British citizen because she asked somewhat clumsily "where are your people from?"

What is the relevance of the question I am not the person to ask, none of us know, only the person who asked, had she taken the same interest in someone without a chip on their shoulder they would probably have been delighted and flattered, this sort of inflated outrage will lead to complaints in future that "the personage said hello to me and quickly passed on to the other white people in the line and chatted at length with and showed great interest in them"

Yes, I really think this 83 year old lady should have been cut some slack and it's a great shame this overshadowed the event itself. 83 years old possibly with cognitive difficulties doing her best to show an interest in the nth complete stranger she had encountered that day and putting what I consider a legitimate question very clumsily. I'm sorry the offended woman didn't let it pass on that occasion and contact someone privately afterwards to express her feelings. However at 83 she's had a good innings and it was time to go.

Age has got nothing to do with it, can you imagine the Queen at 96 asking a similar question?
