If you are going to lose power for a whole 2 hours, do you really need things like that?

I suggest you check the power ratings of your router and other devices you might want to use against the max 150 watt listed for that magic box.

Be sure to get your woolies out, have candles, camping stove, fuel and matches or a lighter. if you have a freezer keep it shut (unless you are actually starving) and keep your fingers crossed.

@ annabellespapa, I'm not in the business of old car batteries, probably cheaper than special brandnew power boxes. Those car batteries loose cranking power after 5, 6 years, not any reason to bring them to the scrapyard. Keep it charged, mains + charger or one solar panel + 12 volt voltage regulator + 12 volt car power outlet + car usb charger = rescaling back.

If you are going to lose power for a whole 2 hours, do you really need things like that? I know what you mean but I am hoping to buy something that could travel with me, recharge a drill or power some low voltage lighting, I always carry a large multi purpose storage crate that goes with me everywhere that can tackle multiple jobs, so something that could assist that is an investment going forward I am thinking. having had 5 houses in France over the last 20 years, I have over compensated, with family and friends with no DIY skills, I normally find I am fixing things whilst being invited for a coffee/lunch so be prepared is my motto. I actually like that I am useful and can solve other people's problems that to them are insurmountable (it is probably the only skill i actually have).

This was a reply to Houpla, I didn't realise that the thread had continued onto another page so it is out of sync:
This is luxury for me compared to having to live in the derelict abandoned building last time with druggies and alco's trying to break their way back in and people stopping their cars and walking right past me to pi55 up the side of my building as they had been doing for decades. The mur pignon was close to collapse as all the chaux mortar had been washed out up to a height of about 1.5m. In my prolonged absence I can see from the security cameras that things are beginning to regress starting with the stationnement anarchique. I need to go back soon and start putting my counterfeit avis de contraventions on windscreens again!

Sounds lovely Apart from an aggression in Bergerac centre and some charming person crapping on the verge of our chemin, life in the SW countryside has been pretty idyllic. The chasse and neighbours' noisy dogs seem to be the most usual sources of contention. But back to power cuts.......

I don't expect any " power cuts" this winter , but think the situation will be a lot worse next Winter.

Not sure why next winter should be worse. By then at least some of the currently off-line power plants should be back up and running.

This year gas reserves were full before Putin pulled the plug. In Europe, everyone is trying to get liquid gas terminals built as quick as possible, but that is not easy as it looks ! I have a friend, working in Germany at the moment, he tells me that firewood is being sold at €180/m2 ! I am not being pessimistic, just looking at what is happening out there.

Overdue maintenance is probably here to stay in France, risky with so many ageing reactor systems. All power plants running again in the winter of 2024? Enough water in the rivers?
