I must be having problems with expressing myself, my query was not how to have the mains water disconnected, it was how would sewage charges be levied in the absence of metered water useage?
If that is still not clear then please tell me what I need to further explain.

Thank you. I found your previous post informative as we have a 'forage' which we put in 10 years ago. We have not tested it for drinking, as we drink bottled water, but in the last couple of years the maire mooted bringing mains to our hameau of two houses for which an annual 'service' charge would've had to be paid by us of about 90Euros even if we didnt bring the pipework to our house. We said we weren't interested as when we asked the maire if it was possible to be connected to the mains when we bought the house, we received a definitive no and were told also that the house could no longer 'piggy back' off the neighbours private water supply. The forage is working well and as it was a significant cost at the time, we are not ready to abandon it or pay for a water supply that we do not forsee using in the foreseeable future. It is good to know that we are not obliged to accept it. For clarification we are not connected to the village sewage system either as that hasn't reached us yet.

You are in theory obliged, although I doubt anything would ever be done about it, most of my new neighbours are not connected.
Flober, I found the information from a newspaper report on exactly the scenario LimousinLady describes regarding a property where I am currently, I then checked the legal references and found that it was indeed the case, clearly you have found something different in your desire to be contrary to what you label "spouting", I have no desire to debate the point, it matters not to me, I wasn't connected because the legal texts said that I had to and they wont prevent me from being disconnected if it makes financial sense.
Now if anyone knows how sewage charges are calculated for a property that does not have a metered mains connection your contribution will be welcomed.

We haven't heard anything for about 18 months now, so we shall just carry on. If they do bring it to the centre of the hameau, we will have to dig our own trench and lay our own pipes for about 50 metres, as it would probably cost too much to have the water board do it. Sorry pcpa, cannot answer your original question.

I can't find anything now to back up what I wrote earlier, I know back then that I did find it because I was shocked and disbelieving but every search now brings up what Flober posted.

Just got our Saur (Brittany) bill, it is for €114.75 of which the 52m3 of water usage equates to €12.90, the rest are charges and we have a fosse and our grey water goes to a ditch.
