Before I kill my laptop I want to try and get in one last time but the damned thing doesn't recognise my password. Is there anyway round it? It's a Samsung r530.

Either remember the password or take it to a computer shop. Failing that say open laptop and blink three times but not sure that will work.

Tried that. And it's the setup password, which I presume is the BIOS. Oh well, it was going to die anyway, just thought I might be able to retrieve a few momentoes. Thank you.

Old? that is newer than mine!
I have removed and cleaned the keyboard/replaced the ribbon cable a couple of times, also the touchpad and the hard drive, the latter two did not survive my frustration being taken out on them.
I wish it were that easy to remove the keyboard (it is a Compaq) but there is one hidden screw that you have to bend the hell out of the keyboard to reveal where to look.

@ pcpa, indeed, always more than one screw, also a keyboard screw down under.

Step-by-step this old HP-Compaq, sliding down several latches to remove the keyboard: Oh, these photos just scramble my brain. If there are things it pains you to lose, mangetout, take it to a computer shop. Otherwise, time to find a replacement. Hope you're doing ok.

@ Jardiniere, my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused when trying to answer Mangetout's question. In my defence the only thing I can say is that we are probably dealing with a case, somewhere in the past, of an unequal DIY start.
