A running partner was a Pharmacienne, she or her staff would very frequently have to carry the sacs (plural) of medications out to the car of clients far younger than I, volume wise they far exceeded my food shopping.
Supermarkets are no longer allowed to give away plastic shopping bags, pharmacies can!
When I was travelling I could always tell a French national by their backpacks, other nationalities would like me have a small first aid kit in a hand sized zipped pocket tucked away in their backpack, the French would have a seperate backpack as large as their main one. A family on a charter flight will have a seperate suitcase for the medications and potions.
The few times I needed antibiotics, medication for things like Giardia and even Malaria it was always the French who could help me out, they even had anaesthetics, splints etc, they told me that the whole kit & kaboodle had been prescribed by their médecin but I didn't realise how things worked then and naively thought they had paid for them, my vaccinations alone cost me a fortune as the NHS would understandably not cover them.

That reminds me of my first trip to India The suitcases were at least half full of mossie nets, malaria prophylactics, water purifying tablets etc as well as all the usual first aid stuff. On the second and subsequent trips, they comprised 32kgs of cat biscuits and 3kgs of clothes and toiletries apiece

Must be Brexit to blame for this.

Must be Brexit to blame for this. You mean , because of all the Brits having to take more anti-depressants ?

It is because Doctors have been briefed to dispense more in an effort to pump up the economy..

The raw ingredients for drugs such as paracetamol are mostly sourced from China, and there is a shortage as currently the Chinese need a most of if for their own needs. There was an item on French news last night saying that some older pharmaceutical factories are being repurposed to start making paracetemol, but that will mean that it will no longer be cheap. The shortage isn't just confined to France, but all over Europe, including the UK.

Worked there 25 years on and off , never had malaria , just needed imodium !
