She's in Rochford @ap so we go down that Holt Fleet lane, is it the big mansion type place on the left with the tall gates and long drive OOI? Hi JD, I had never heard of Holt Fleet Lane but when I Googled it this house came up but it is called Cubbold- www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/129976388#/?channel=RES_BUYWe have lived in the area for 27 years and walk extensively with our dog around and about but have never come across a house called Rochford, any more clues... Shouldn't you be discussing this by PM?

Thank you all for the tips, will check house insurance before we head back in a few weeks time. I think you will find that your insurance will be void if you leave the shutters open. You also risk enticing an opportunistic burglar. I went to the Notaire on Tuesday morning and left my shutters open as it was sunny. When I returned I noticed someone had tried to force my patio doors. Luckily they didn't succeed but it's unnerved me as I live alone now. I have neighbours all round so whoever it was took a chance that he/she wouldn't be seen.

Get an electric dehumidifier that can drain to the outside (not just fill the tank) and leave it running, we bought one from leroy's called a Qlima it cost about €130 about 5 years ago and can run 24/7 if you want it to, it tells you the humidity of the room and you can see over time it going down.Don't put it in a room with a toilet or sink as it will empty that too and then you will have smells from the fosse. The weather about two weeks ago were the perfect storm for moisture forming on unheated places, my wooden uninsulated workshop was a prime example, condensation was on all my metal tools and my bottles of wine, solution bring them into the house for a few hours. This is a weather condition that happens every ten years or so, so don't worry, sort it now and it should not come back. p.s We put double glazing in the house and the condensation has not been a problem since. Is yours the D610 or D612 model @ap?

Hi JD, ours is the Qlima D510 model so hopefully the ones you are looking are upgraded versions, they are a quality made product, the main things I found important is that it has its own in built water collection tank but had the ability to attach a narrow clear plastic hose included where you can bypass the collection tank and drain to the outside so I could leave it on a timer when we weren't there and have it come on for a few hours overnight on the cheaper rate electricity, I chose to drill the wood frame of a patio door and drain to a flower bed outside and plug the small hole in the frame when not in use, I have lent it to a friend who said he left it on the draining board in the kitchen and drained it to the sink using the hose.

Did you notice JD that there is a larger model (630) available from LM at about 300€ but the specification seems to aimed at a much larger volume and has some other useful features. They are all quite tempting and I would definitely link one through a timer as AP described.

I spotted that last night and was about to post my findings, the BIG benefit is that one is WIFI/Smart controlled, so I can control it from back in the UK.....its the fave at the moment for me........I have downloaded all the documentation, and the only thing I am not sure about is if it will show me the humidity level in the house......I hope it does

One benefit that I did not mention was the mild heat it generates into the room to take the chill off. www.amazon.co.uk/giordanoshop-Qlima-D630P/dp/B07ZKR1Y8V

You have gone to an awfull lot of trouble and expense and saddled yourself with considerable future expense and complications just to avoid using an already installed low wattage VMC in the manner which it should be used.
Your money, your choice.

Reading this thread from the start , I would suggest that you plan any future painting/plastering in the Spring and not just before the Winter. The problem you have,is self imposed.

We had some condensation, flooding and various other issues in our previous place.
The bloke that bought it seems to have solved many by levelling a larger area around the house which was at the edge of a slope.

Well first impression is very good, i can see the temperature and humidity level in the smart life app, and control all the functions, so with this and the VMC on, I hope I can keep things under control.

Reading this thread from the start , I would suggest that you plan any future painting/plastering in the Spring and not just before the Winter. The problem you have,is self imposed. I read this post the day it went up but as I was not a member I could not respond and was surprised no one else answered. 😁 Do painters and plasterers just work in the summer months, no they work throughout the year. 😃 Some houses suffer more from damp than others. I thought let's check Google to see if you were right. Google says When we think of interior painting, it’s easy to assume your home improvement project should be done in the spring or summer months. But did you know there are benefits to interior painting in the winter months? Because there is less humidity, your paint will dry noticeably faster and better in the colder months, winter is the best time for painting the exterior or the home’s interior. Don’t wait for the hot temperature, high humidity months. Freshen up your home now with a fresh coat of paint following these 5 simple interior house painting tips for the winter season. I hope that your post which might have been flawed has not put all painters and decorators out of work out of the summer seasons. 🥳
