If only there were a choice The couple I have found were twice the price of an obscene large screen and it was impossible to decipher the gobbledygook to see if the tuner was actually compatible with French TNT HD transmissions, reading through all the questions and reports was no help, nobody actually uses a TV as a TV these days it seems.

I realised in the 80's that watching series is an addiction like drugs, tobacco or alcohol but so much less harmful!

I realised in the 80's that watching series is an addiction like drugs, tobacco or alcohol but so much less harmful! Look at the results of what believing in the media did for the alleged 51.8%, or whatever, of the pop of GB. Conversely, possibly a few percent of the pop. gained immeasurably. Drugs saved my life more times than I can remember.

We are only using Freesat and a cheap Brico sourced satbox with a CRT telly from last century that refuses to die. If Freesat is on the kill list we won't be upgrading anything. Frankly 90% of Freesat stuff is repeats anyway and we won't be throwing money at "paid for" streaming sources. I have managed to access several Netflix films online and they were clearly low budget fodder. Older films and TV series can be found online and downloaded for viewing an any TV with a usb socket so that's the way I'll go if push comes to shove.

Even a 20 second Youtube clip can take several minutes of stuttering to conclude so you will understand stand why I have no experience of streaming or desire to do so!

Space on wall is limited to something like a 17" laptop screen, maybe a 19" TV at a pinch and you simply cannot find them any more, I absolutely detest seeing multiple boxes cables and remotes around a TV and there just isn't the space and power points here (I have already added as many as I can without it looking like a bordel, plus the mess would always be right in front of me, perhaps in a large living room I could put up with it but not here, living in such a small space you have to be very organised and tidy or you could never invite anyone in. I also dont like using more than one remote control to operate things, Skybox is good if you can find a suitable code for the TV, the made up marques sold in France often are not listed, mind you I dont need a remote when I can reach everything without getting up!
Like you I am not sure if the caravan aerial is compatible with TNT HD transmissions, everyone I ask seems to be streaming from wherever, I would just like plain and simple TV.
TV reception for SD and HD use the same aerial otherwise everyone would need a new aerial to receive HD.
The problem with caravan aerials is that they have little gain owing to the small size and are mounted too near the ground as opposed to a rooftop. I'm sure you are capable of pole mounting a lightweight log periodic aerial
Amazon.fr have 13/14/16 inch full HD TNT TV sets.
Where your 'get and go' gone?

Thanks, I thought that was the case with the older aerials, re the pole mounted one and your perception of my lack of get up & go, unlike most people TV is a very low priority for me, if it means a bordel with tuner boxes, cables, antennes on poles etc I would prefer to carry on without.
I was hoping someone around might have an old or spare HD compatible TV that I could try plugging into the house or caravan aerials to see if I picked up anything before splashing out on one but they were all either the size of an aircraft carrier and in constant use or older sets with non HD compatible that were being used with a Sky or Humax box, like I said, I seem to be in a minority of one wanting to watch French TV through an aerial.
I had seen the supposed full HD TV's on Amazon, some of them were only "HD ready" like all the almost new TVs I had to throw away in the hôtel when the signals became HD, the screen resolution may have been HD but the tuner wasn't, I got very burnt there so wont be making the same mistake again, the TV's I looked at on Amazon had loads of confusing guff but an absence of confirmation that they actually had a tuner compatible with the French HD TNT channels.

I was under the impression that all new TVs sold in France had to be capable of receiving TNT channels (all of which are HD anyway). You might try this site to check out any TVs you might be interested in: www.lcd-compare.com/

I doubt that Amazon Marketplace sellers give a flying **** which leave very little choice left from Amazon itself where you can send it back with impunity, probably zero choice based on my last visit.
Your site out of the 1823 tvs to choose from guess how many are 19" or smaller?
Two! at around €347 for a 19" which might even be too big:( plus about 4 tiny 10" ones for truck drivers.
And that was the problem I was trying to explain.

There are terrestrial TNT decoders available which could be used with a small TV or PC monitor with an HDMI port.
Having had several smart TVs which have slowly turned dumb as software support has disappeared I've decided I'll only use relatively cheap plug-in adapters/decoders/etc and fibre internet.
With the 2024 Olympics in Paris there will be a strong push to sell UHD (4K) TVs.

A lot in this discussion explains my reluctance to spend much money on any "new tech" stuff. Too much change over a period of time that makes existing kit obsolete. Incompatibilities across the board. SD, HD, whateverD, Freeview, Freesat, terrestrial, digital, and next week most likely Warpdrive ready. Some of my kit requires Scart sockets to make connection. These appear to have been left off the new TVs but it might be possible to find adapters. Then into the obsolescense mix you can add non-repairability. If it goes wrong its off to the tip we go. I'm thinking that when our pre-historic CRT monster finally goes belly up I might not bother to replace it at all. I can always download most of what I want from the internet to watch later via USB stick and a home built PC fed to a monitor. 19" desktop monitors should still be available for a few years yet. It is a bit of a fiddle getting the downloads but with the right bit of clever software it doesn't matter how fast your internet connection is. When I first started I only had a 500mb download speed and there was a buffering issue if I wanted to watch it in real time (streaming?) but I always let it carry on until the end and save to a file. The software joined up the gaps and I could watch a film start to finish without any hiccups.

When that day arrives I will most likely have to resort to the traditional French way of disposing of rubbish. The garden surrounding my previous hovel was a treasure trove just a few inches (or centimetres) below the surface. Everything from alarm clocks to a 2cv were buried there.
