I tried to get rid of an O2 cylinder that I found on the premises when we moved in. The dechat will not take them. A nice lad ONFA collected it with other metal scrap one day. This non MIG welder, does it use special wire that inerts the melt pool somehow?

Fil fourré = Flux cored wire.

Thanks for that. As an engineer, I cannot accept non specifics. It is then not a gasless Mig unit. Perhaps a cored wire welder (CWW)

Well you will have to take up your grievance with somebody else, I simply used and will continue to use the term they have been known and marketed as for at least the last 20 years.
Do you get as worked up about Hoovers and Karchers? What about Sharpies and Pigs in Blankets? They are two that I think are just plain dumb but I don't question people when they use the terms.

I hope the Parkside drill works out as they have a range (from time to time) of potentially useful products compatible with the rechargeable batteries for small jobs. The one I mentioned was €79.99 but with the battery and charger. I recently bought this refurbished mini WORX chainsaw, it is absolutely excellent and the battery tells you how much charge is left, just did some laurel hedge cutting and this was a joy to use along with my hedge cutter and large petrol chainsaw, it is currently out of stock but keep an eye out, I have also used it on a few small DIY jobs where I would of used a saw or electric jigsaw. The only improvement they could make it to have a self lubricating chain attachment but no bother really, I put some chain oil (actually vegetable oil) in a jar with a brush inside and every 5-10 mins brushed it on the chain. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225013816291I have seen dozens of ads on Aliexpress for cheap replacement chains for those things. I thought at the time one of those would be great for lopping while up an extending ladder where a full sized petrol chainsaw is a bit heavy for us old 'un's.

I also have a cheap Aliexpress, rechargeable 8" chain saw with two lithium batteries, it cost around £70, it doesn't have as many of the safety features that the WORX has and does not have the extendable pole which takes it to 2.25m reach, which is really handy to keep you away from the business end when working with it.

Famous last words and all that, guess what came with their pub today? - A bloomin great catalogue of arrivage of purely DIY stuff! The only really good deal for a very good bit of kit is the gasless mig welder on the back page for €79.99, I bought one last year for €99.99 and it is superb, well as good as it could be within the limitations of gasless mig welding, Thanks for this. Currently I'm in the UK and so checked my Lidl app for the catalogue. Got into a fluster as been waiting ages for the compressor to reappear on sale, and I thought it was tomorrow 🤣. And I want the welder as well to supplement my arc welder. I has already contacted a friend to see if he could help, when I realised it starts on Thursday 2nd March! Dooh!

Keep a weather eye open for a Parkside PMSG 200 A2. I got mine from Lidl Belgium. It is capable of Mig & Tig with or without gas and MMA (stick) and fil fourré. I do quite a bit of steel sculpture so a multi machine was an ideal choice. It cost me 199€.

Are you pleased with it? I used to be very adept at TIG welding, I learned before there were foot pedal current controls, the first time I used one of them I found it very hard to adapt, my instinct ingrained over the years was to increase the traverse and filler rod feed rate and I found it very hard not to and to co-ordinate my foot, it came with practice of course and its a far better method. Does the TIG have foot control and HF arc start capability? I have a handbag inverter welder, bought years ago from Leroy Merlin, that is very good.
Have you found any non contract gas suppliers in France? Argon and oxy-acetylene are what I require, I have the kit and also empty UK cylinders, the Argoshield is full.

I got a pair of Hobbyweld 5 bottles to do the body repairs on my old Transit. More info here. No contract. Just pay a per bottle deposit then return for a refill as needed. No other charges. It was convenient when we were popping back to UK every couple of years and way way cheaper than any source here in France. There's an agent in the Channel Islands.

There's always that risk with gas welding.
A small oxyacetylene rig was always my favourite.
