Cookies are for kids. I hate their interference while I'm browsing the net. I get several types. One that freezes the machine, one that makes you decline each subject and most do not allow rejection of all. can anyone confirm that if I get the type that allows me to continue to the site without responding, that that then I have automatically allowed them to do whatever they want with my data? This is not clear to me and I assume that that is their intention.

It's a safe bet. You can set the parameters of your 'puter to erase cookies automatically at the end of each session, but then you've got the rigmarole of logging in to regular sites again each time. Isn't modern life wunnerful? On the bright side, it won't be long now before the French come up with an alternative word for them

This is a nightmare and as yet the only way to avoid being exploited in this way is to not go on the internet at all. They often make it time consuming to reject cookies in order to wear down your resistance. In today's world privacy is no longer tolerated. The consumer has become the product and their personal data as a commodity is sold on the open market.

But we will resist, won't we, A? Since I got my fixed phone that doesn't let publicity calls through, and a Yahoo mail address that allows me to block spammers by the hundreds, and a decent adblocker, I'm prepared to hold back the tide Bring it on!

Resistance may well be futile but it's worth a crack. Power to the people!

What is a fixed phone Mamie?
A rhetorical question, sadly I know all to well what one is, its the thing that drives me mad when I am back at the main residence, the one that has logged a thousand missed calls in my absence without a single message being left.

A fixed phone is one that doesn't ring to disturb you when those crap calls come through. Fixed either by a cleverly designed answerphone or the cheaper option known as a club hammer.

Anyway, looking on the bright side, lots of sites still have 'continue without accepting' or 'no thanks' options. Just one click and pouufff...gonski!

I don't think so, but it doesn't keep me awake at night

The continue without accepting means they can't put cookies onto your computer, not the opposite.

I wonder if they can still read the cookies that other sites have placed there, so they know where you've been previously.
