After an electric car caught fire on a Norwegian ferry, the ferry company has banned them. I can understand this as a difficult fire on a ship is the last thing any crew wish to tackle and the consequences can be huge. The marine transport authorities will most likely investigate this and rule on it. This may have a knock on effect to all ferries. Keep an eye open for changes to regulations when crossing to UK within the next few years. www.schuttevaer.nl/nieuws/actueel/2023/01/31/elektrische-autos-niet-welkom-op-elektrisch-schip/

Brittany Ferries have been for some time asking online when you book whether your car is electric, I don't have one so don't know the consequences if you had.

The Channel Tunnel will be the first to ban them, it's only a question of time before the next fire or they may choose to do it proactively.
Road tunnels might follow.

No bother last Autumn. Customs queues in England were.
which makes me wonder if there are any salient differences between the batteries used in a hybrid and an all electric vehicle.

I have been told our local Landrover dealer has a stand alone electric vehicle inspection bay which can be sealed off in case of fire.

And non-electric vehicles are fireproof?
I wonder if an electric vehicle is more likely to self-immolate than ICE vehicles?

More difficult than several gallons of petrol? Fair point re the charging. That seems to be the point of greatest risk. I only ask because if the risk of fire is, in reality, less than with an ICE it strikes the bit if my brain that's on the lookout for excuses rather than reasons for opposing EVs. It reminds me of those specious arguments when compulsory seat belts were introduced when some people argued that in highly selective circumstances the belt itself could cause injury, ignoring the fact that in almost all cases injuries and deaths are reduced by seat belts.

The major selling point ( on the adverts) for Electric Cars is that they are good for the environment. One has to ask , for whose environment ? I would say, for those that can afford to pay their price. Certainly not for those that provide the metals to build them ?
