I would have thought if this was a current government decision, then they have already done the maths and think they will get more votes than the other parties, there is no other reason I can think of for them to do this?

They are completely out of touch with reality if in their desperation for votes they think they'll get any from expats.

To be fair the campaign to get rid of the 15 year rule started many hears ago and cannot be attributed to any particular PM. As for voting, the number of expats who voted for Brexit was very high and crossed all party lines.
( I now await FU2’s intervention!)

I don't think it is yet actually 'in law'.
I am sure I read somewhere that it is not likely to be passed into active use before the next election (sorry don't remember where I read it though).

I think most EU expats voted remain, although I remember seeing some data that there is now a big drift away from Conservative for those still able to vote in UK

This lot won't get my vote. As long as one votes to get them out by endorsing another party, perhaps less of a dungheap.

I think it's in law (ie it's had Royal Assent) but additional legislation is needed before it becomes 'live' and that won't be happen until later this year.
