Today our Daughter asked if would like to go for lunch in Cancale. We were to meet her, her Partner and their 13 month old daughter in our favourite restaurant. On arriving all but one parking was full and that if anyone of you know Cancale, it is left at the bottom as you come down the panoramic route and then a fair walk to the high majority of restaurants. I mention the date as most holiday resorts will not even be thinking of opening for a while yet but here in Cancale it was extremely busy, so much so in fact we waited behind three cars to enter for a parking spot. Saturday lunchtime is not normally the most popular time for lunch in our part of Brittany, well not as popular as Friday and Saturday evening and of course Sunday lunch time. I have to say that most restaurants were open but in our local town, some were closed due to school holidays.
The owner who we have known for a fair number of years only opened for the first time since Christmas on Friday night and said that she had no tables left to reserve until well in to the afternoon. Even Intra Muros in Saint Malo cannot compete with the sheer numbers that flock to Cancale AND the folks from Paris arrive next week, so if you are thinking of booking lunch in Cancale at a weekend can I suggest you get there for not much later than 11 am to guarantee a parking spot without having to wait a while.
The lunch was excellent and the ambiance was very good.

Prefer Nice or Cannes. Warmer & busy all year round. You seem to think we all live in the cold north.

Could they have been busy because of le jour de Saint Valentin? Maybe people could not get a reservation for the evening so they chose lunchtime instead, convenient for all the cinq à septers The superb weather all this week has dragged a lot of bears out of hibernation, it was 18°c here today and probably got hotter than that, there were loads of cyclists about.

OH and I and our friends used to enjoy eating out in Cancale whilst on holiday slightly more than 20 years ago .. so I am pleased to read that the tradition continues

What was the restaurant omegal? We might go on our next visit Contre Courant run by the lovely Mimi and her husband, they had 4 or 5 in the kitchen and the same again serving, inc Mimi with her severely broken ankle, now recovering but still in a cast. Do go Johnny, you won't be disappointed.

No it is purely as it is Cancale pcpa, it has been like this in Cancale for a very long time. On a few occasions, even though we have had a reservation, the police block entrances to the town due to the town being completely full and nowhere to park. When that happens we pop back to La Gouesniere to Tirel Gueran (now Bistro 1936) which is very good. As for cyclists, here in Brittany they go out in just a few degrees

I find that hard to believe given the timing of the Fêtes de Citron and Mimosa

It did my heart good to see Agen packed out last night, even though it took 20 minutes to find somewhere to park. It was the busiest and most animated I've ever seen it.

In this currant financial climate Iam surprised anyone can afford to eat out. We went to our favourite chateau restaurant on the 15th (OH's birthday) for lunch. There were at least 30 people dining. The day before for Valentines Day they had 70 at lunchtime and 66 in the evening.
