Interesting how the Government has targetted the wealthy simply by uping the malus of the 510bhp Alpha from 30 000€ to 40 00€ despite improuvements being made to its emissions.

I think it is an excellent strategy, I have found that those who drive these cars boast of how much it cost them for the malus, they wear it as a badge of honneur, they try to put it across in an ironic "silly me, I did not realise" manner but in an insouciant way as if to say "peu importe, I can afford it".
So yes, double or treble the taxes on those who want the vehicles as visual symbols of their wealth, also when they boast that it consumes XYZ litres/100kms they should be made to pay double for their fuel. I t wont discourage them from buying the vehicles, the opposite in fact, the more it is known how much it costs them te more they will desire them.

I think its a very unfair tax, my car had no malus tax was just a couple of years old when it was bought has low emmissions but has a top speed of 250 and 0 to 100 pretty quickly. Years ago when we were poor I used to buy old high powered cars which were cheap to buy and use but if your poor today these are now out of the question.

Car club meetings, we used to hold one once a year at the Lycée pro, I would see the same types (the same people) at any gathering like a static display at a village fête and they were always leading forth with the same old same old to any captive audience.
There is quite a big monthly classic car meet in the Intermarché car park close to me.
Your car does have less supposed emissions than mine, they were both matriculated at around the same time and I had to pay quite a bit compared to you, at that time VAG had been caught for cheating, Mercedes had not.
