I know this topic should probably be in the Jokes section but................. Does anyone know how to get in touch with a live person at Ebay? We are unable to log in today. The message comes up "It looks like you signed in from a different computer. We’ll need to confirm your identity. Call us at 1-866-303-3229 and mention security code 90398068019.
We're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
I tried the number but it connects to a French fire department...........I think. I can't get to any direct contact without first logging in, which I can't do. The mrs. is having the same problem on a different PC. I tried the contact number for USA ebay but the automated "bouncer" won't let me in because my registered phone number is not recognised. The phone number on the wife's message took her to Denmark? Anyone else having bother today?

Ebay.fr or Ebay.co.uk? That looks like the Ebay.com customer service number. Try the French one 078 16 16 00 Or use the USA country code followed by the number you have possibly dropping the 1
Editted, I see that you have tried the USA one.
I can still log in normally to Ebay.fr and Ebay.co.uk

I found a number for ebay US but couldn't get past the automated voice wanting my ebay registered phone number. Including the country code it was too long to be accepted. My account is actually set up with the French site but I almost never use it because it is useless for most things I need. I normally log in to the UK site for account info and purchase, etc. and only ever need to log in to the French site to send messages to sellers. This morning wife and I both cannot log in to any ebay site and get the message above. I think unless I can get a live body (not an Asian call centre) we have both come to the end of our ebay relationship. No way in to get to any help, not even their user forum.

My apologies for giving you the French number, it is pas attribué It seems you are right, they are a non contact organisation, you cannot call them, they will call you back but to ask for that you have to be logged into your account. I feel for you.

The last number was surtaxé (5cts per minute) which may have been why Free would not connect me, I found another non premium rate number 01 73 00 17 10
It was looking encouraging as Ebay customer services came up on my phone but there was just silence, no ringing tone and then it cut off after 30 seconds, I tries twice.
Its possible that one or both of them may work from a landline.

I found a way for them to contact you if you cannot access your account. Go here - www.ebay.fr/help/callme_click?topicId=4196&contextId=7b1b111a-9897-45df-8f92-1e35aaeeb8b5%3A1867e6182e9&initFrom=ARTICLEGo to the bottom and click on "Demander-nous de vous appeler" you can enter another number than the one supposedly registered to your account. It's intended for when there is suspicion that an account may have been hacked which is a possibility in your case. If speaking French will be a problem then by googling you might find a UK number but whether they can help with a French account I don't know, the French one would be better. waiting time currently 1 minute.

I used your link and after a tortuous bout of clicking links it took me to my "messages" inside my account. It looked like we had cracked it. I then logged out and tried to log in again from scratch and it wouldn't have it. Gave me the message and a phone number and security code to tell someone about. When ever I try the number I get a French message that may be something about the number being wrong. I can't tell.
I'm wondering if I try to start from scratch and set up a new account. It will be a pain in the butt because it will be in French. 17 years ago my account was set up by a friend who could speak French well enough to do it. Even today, all my Paypal correspondence arrives in French although Paypal and Ebay are no longer connected at the hip.
I just tried using your link again but it won't work a second time.

AardvarkIf you haven't already done so, I suggest you clear out your web browser cache, cookies, etc. and try again. I assume you haven't changed web browser? Also, do you use a VPN? If so, is it still connected? If it is, it will be giving an IP address/country which is not normally associated with your account.

I clear the browser cache and cookies every time I close the browser. I tried to gain entry using three different browsers. I don't use a VPN either. I have just bitten the bullet and given up on my old account and registered for a new one with a new username, etc. I'll see how it goes. Mrs. A has done the same. Now that I have a way in I might snoop around and see if there are any new routes to customer service that are now open to me.
And now to put the icing on the cake, I find that new accounts are unable to use Paypal. That pretty much finishes ebay for me. Now looking for reasonable alternatives.

Update: After spending most of yesterday beating my addled brain against the Goliath non-event that masquerades as Ebay customer service I gave up. I haggled with four different charming script readers somewhere in the Asian continent who had supposedly dedicated their lives to solving my problem all to no avail. And then the Ebay emails started popping into my inbox asking me to evaluate my experience. That company has more brass neck than Boris bloody Johnson. I in no uncertain terms told them what I thought of Faty, Priya, Camille, Marc Rocky, and their insane security verification systems. And added a few suggestions in the blank comments boxes they thoughtfully supplied.
Today I find my original account is again up and running, alongside my new one, as if nothing had ever been wrong. I must have come up like a rash on their system and someone had to remove their finger from their favourite crevice and rectify the problem. Proves that sometimes having a good old rant can bring results.

Or maybe it was a hiccup that resolved itself and affected loads of people.
Least week was the turn of Hotmail now known as Outlook to f**k up globally with I think every one of their users, my inbox instead of only allowing E-mails from my contacts and others who I had nominated as safe senders suddenly filled up with all 100 or so of the spam e-mails that should go straight into the junk mail folder, my phone is set to give a notification for E-mails going into my inbox which might be one or two a day, suddenly it was beeping non stop.
It was worldwide because it was reported in most of the newspapers, by the next day things were back to normal but there was no explanation or apology.
I spent far too much time trying to resolve the problem before reading that everyone was affected, by then my laptop screen was covered in spittle and bile and my blood pressure through the roof.

Yahoo mail has been having issues as well every time I try to login I have to ask for a code which is a pain that gets sent to your phone.

Yahoo mail has been having issues as well every time I try to login I have to ask for a code which is a pain that gets sent to your phone. Ditto with my Microsoft email account, comes through fine on my phone but if I switch off my laptop I have to put in a password or security code that I cannot remember off hand. There is a new version of Microsoft email that keep on asking me to try but as I resist, I think this will be the norm from now on.

Proves that sometimes having a good old rant can bring results. I was going to suggest leaving it a while and it should sort itself out, the Paypal agreement has or is changing and Ebay.uk appear to not want you to use it as is probably is going to cost them a small fraction of the transaction. I have to say in defence of Ebay.uk that if you buy something that doesn't quite fit the description or is unfit for purpose, through the messaging service you can deal with the seller and replacements/refunds come through quickly, I think the sellers are fearful of poor reviews.
