Hopefully LAPI (ANPR) could be in place later in 2024. Christophe Béchu a précisé que les appels d'offres étaient en train d'être lancés pour trouver des opérateurs. www.lesechos.fr/politique-societe/regions/zfe-le-gouvernement-promet-des-controles-et-des-sanctions-pour-les-vehicules-polluants-fin-2024-1872881But clearly where LAPI isn't yet in place, controls will be carried out on the ground, hence the utility of a certificate on display.

I have a disabled badge (issued in France), what, if any, advantages are associated with crit-air registration?

Yes, just found I don't need to register my car at all. I will need to have my badge with me at all times instead.

But clearly where LAPI isn't yet in place, controls will be carried out on the ground, hence the utility of a certificate on display. That is what my point is which has been misconstrued by others. "Clearly" is very questionable, although for the people making money from non obligatory vignettes clearly the suggestion that it might happen will do their work for them on social media. The utility of a certificate on display is for the person manning said hypothetical contrôle which by its very nature will cause gridlock on what are already the busiest roads, the utility to them is because they dont have joined up systems, they cant see from your registration what your Critair class is although any petrolhead would have a good idea, paying for a vignette means you are visibly demonstrating to them what your class is (hence my talk of self incrimination) and ergo you would not be there anyway, its like robbing a bank with a swag bag over your shoulder, a stripy prison shirt and wearing a stocking on your head. Yes if they were to actually do roadside contrôles they could target vehicle not displaying a vignette, the aim is to reduce pollution and not get a bad name for raking in money from fines, also not to spend a fortune on technology that will exceed the revenue from its implementation plus the bad feeling it will generate, look at the polémique of all the money wasted on the HGV toll system (I have forgotten its name) which was stillborn. What they have done is a masterstroke and will achieve their aims of eliminating polluting vehicles from the city centres without any investment or ever having to invoke fines and I take my hat off to them.

There is at least one thing which merits a word of praise, the official Crit'Air website. Not only in French but also in English and German, easy to understand, easy payment procedure, almost immediate response by e-mail and fast delivery of the vehicle sticker, also outside France.

I'm laughing because I posted the link on the first page of this thread 🤣 But worth repeating....

Just about every measure introduced in the last 15 years has been about raking in money from fines.

No, the nice M. Macron would never do that!
Did you see what the guy asked him at the Salon d'Agriculture?

Having followed this thread some months ago, I decided to visit the site suggested earlier and apply for the certificate for our car. I agree with RA that the site has much to commend it particularly their attempt to cater for English speakers. When we arrived back in France a few weeks ago I completed all the required information, paid three and a bit euros online and waited. It took about five days to arrive in our post box. The accompanying letter gave instructions in English how to stick it on the windscreen. I will offer to correct and improve their English language version which has a few strange errors. It is a pity that they did not use a true English speaker to proof read and get it precisely right. I meant to check if any other cars travelling in or through our area have the certificate on display.

We bought one as we will be going through Rouen quite a bit over the next few years. When we went through there in July very few vehicles had the stickers but that might change next year when the ANPR cameras are up and running and the authorities can issue fines automatically.

I’ve advised people who were panicking that there wouldn’t be time to receive one be fore le mmaving home (UK, Australia) that the email issued is acceptable to the authorities, and it was best to leave it on display when parked.
That was the advice from a French traffic police officer last year. We had a Crit’Air sticker, which went with that car when we sold it a few months ago.
You never know when you might have to follow a diversion following an accident, particularly somewhere like Lyon, maybe in the tunnel, when you can’t take your usual route
Also advised that no action would be taken this year by the authorities, but that having one was best.

Just went into the site to order one for the new car we’re picking up next week. Really user friendly site - only took a couple of minutes. As recommended by Gigi we printed out the details and will keep in the car until the sticker arrives. Our insurance broker said it took less than three weeks for it to be posted.
