As I've always said when asked by rather indignant Brits as to why I consider myself an economic migrant We were able to buy enough land to build a house on and come out without a mortgage..something that would have been very difficult to do in the UK. We enjoy more space, a better quality of life and far less stress than we had in the UK..ie we moved here because we thought we could have a better life. The response is usually 'well you aren't dependent on the state' and that is true apart from the bonuses we get occasionally because we have a relatively low income.. but then neither are the vast majority of imigrants that move for economic reasons. While it won't have been part of the decision to move, you have also benefited by restricted increases in electricity prices - 15% versus around 100% - and "subsidised" fuel cost - 15c/l for a longer period than the 5p/l in the UK.

Yes that is a stark difference and also the lengths our government had to go to to achieve this, the renationalisation of EDF.
I feel for any inactifs that chose to return to the UK in recent years because they could not make a go of it in France.

Second page; seven lines up (and I am still on the ground) By some strange quirk of fate my oh is having problems with what is probably her third printer.. so much for paperless media, saving the ozone layer and the fecin Orangutans by not eating palm oil.

I always thought that small boats bill was the lad who looked after the yachties tender for a tanner when they came ashore to the pub.

No. That ambitious Bill is the one that takes all the small boats back across the Channel to sell back to the trafficers.
