The BBC suspended Gary Lineker yesterday from presenting Match of the Day today.
For having anti government views...........

Not anti government but comparing them to the nazis is completely inacceptable. I shall enjoy MOTD without the inane chat and analysis.

The current UK Government is not to be trusted. Think Putin (well maybe not quite so extreme!). Which governments of countries in the world do not like criticism from their citizens, some immediately spring to mind, North Korea, China, Russia, to name just a few. Now add to that the UK (it probably started during BJ's time), they are also bringing in anti strike laws (hoping the French will follow ).

He actually said they were using language NOT DISSIMILAR to that used in 1930’s Germany. The BBC don’t seem to have any problem with questionable tweets made by Alan Sugar and Andrew Neil in the past… Heartening to see so many coming out in solidarity with him though.

Not anti government but comparing them to the nazis is completely inacceptable. I shall enjoy MOTD without the inane chat and analysis. What he actually tweeted :
"There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries." "This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the '30s."
So the whole thing is over exaggerated and if there had not been an over-reaction , few people would have noticed.

I agree that there has been over reaction but that leads many to question how impartial BBC impartiality actually is.
And that from a chairman whose own impartiality is in some respects under question; an organisation that failed to fact check and correct dotty Dorries's statements; Fiona Bruce's comment about family Johnson and possible wife abuse; a decision to not air an Attenborough program about how governments have contributed to wildlife loss in the UK through their policies; Martin Bashir and on and on it goes.

Gary Lineker got too big for his boots; he is a football commentator, no more. He has to remain neutral in all matters which means keeping his trap shut, especially if he wants to keep his outrageous salary.

He can say what he likes, so can all of us (whilst remaining within the law) in so called 'free' countries.
If his employer does not like what he says, then they have the right to fire him, but he could also sue for unfair dismissal!

He can say what he likes but not on air or on his social media. This is not about freedom of speech. It is about abuse of his position.
I suspect much of the protest would have been a lynch mob if he had made a negative comment about the illegal arrivals.

Not anti government but comparing them to the nazis is completely inacceptable. I am going to stick my head above the parapet and ask, why is it "completely inacceptable"? I know that how the Nazis ended up at the end of the 30s and into the 40s was abhorrent beyond belief and that does not describe the current government. Do we think the Nazis started out in the early 30s declaring all handicapped, communist supporting or Jewish people should be rounded up, abused and killed? No they started out marginalising these groups, then attaching epithets like vermin, being overrun etc., then they started to remove the rights of these individuals. If that sounds at all too familiar with where the UK is now then consider what might just happen as the UK stumbles blindly into more and more extreme measures as each one fails to stop immigration. It might not degenerate of course if you really think that telling people they will be illegal stops them coming; but if people do not stand up and say "enough" then the risk will be there. The problem in 1930s Germany is that not enough people did stand up and then it was easy for the authorities to silence the critics and add the to the list of "undesirables". They lost their jobs (perhaps another parallel with today) and it was ensured that they did not get another, so they largely lost their public voice. (Certainly a parallel with what is being attempted today)

If you or I had said the same nobody would have bothered. The problem is a well known person with a huge following on social media has stirred up a huge reaction. There are no winners.

Add to that big mouth Bono, the band aid bloke, and all the other "celebs" who are not trained journalists yet get their idiot voices heard or their boobs made bigger. Sorry, I see it was too big for boots not boobs.

Shame, and outright fear, to all of you who deny someone the right to voice their views.

He can say what he likes but not on air or on his social media. This is not about freedom of speech. It is about abuse of his position. Sure he must refrain from uncalled for remarks on air, and I am positive he has never done so. However he, along with many others, can write (and they do) anything that is not against that social media's rules.
He regularly posts on social media about a variety of stuff, some of which, some folk may find unacceptable. Very occasionally he may upset someone, but I think we have all done that at some point in our lives.
However he has the right to talk, write or say what he likes, provided he never blasphemes, which I have never seen from him.
In this instance, he originally called out the government on the boats policy with "Good heavens, this is beyond awful.", someone replied to him and then he responded to that remark with “This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”
