Serious request.
One important topic is the prostate. A couple of years ago I had a scare, needing to pass water every 20 or 39 minutes. It lasted for a few weeks by which time I had undergone tests which revealed a slightly enlarged prostate. More tests followed culminating in a cytoscopy, something I was dreading but which, actually turned out completely painless, taking about ten seconds maximum. Nothing untoward in the bladder or associated tubes. No infection or indeed anything untoward. The problem, whatever it was cleared up on its own after about two or three months. Moral of the story is chaps, don’t be afraid or embarassed to have the tests. I was terrified especially at the thought of someone pushing a very thin tube into a very delicate area. Any of you have prostate trouble ? How do you cope with it ?

Good idea Norfolk because some guys are reluctant to talk about these things, and feelings in general.

I have no idea what state my prostate is in but before I came to France I had an exploratory look-see using en endoscope something like you describe. I didn't know what was about to happen but when it did I must have jumped a foot off the platform and said a very naughty word. Not looking forward to it again for any reason.

Yes its important to talk about it but it should not be a men only accessible part of the forum any more than I think there should be a womens only section.
Discrimination and gender identity aside the female members may have an important contribution to make, some will have partners living with the problem, some may have lost their partners to it, they will have had to live with it every bit as much as their menfolk.
I see no problem with having sections that are male or female biased, DIY or cooking/entertaining spring to mind but they should be open to all, someone who has no interest in either would be happy to avoid those sections but most people who survive their partner will probably have to start doing things that were their late partners domain and will need help and advice.

I had to wait one month before having the cytoscopy and didn’t sleep much due to worrying about the pain which I assumed would be inevitable even though the Urologue said that it wouldn’t be painful though ‘a little uncomfortable’ for a few seconds. Before the intervention a very nice nurse applied some analgesic cream to the area ( ) before calling the urologue . I closed my eyes and braced myself but all I felt was a few seconds of wanting to pass water as he shot a jet of water in the bladder to better see what was happening inside. It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest to go through it again. It’s still a mystery what caused my problems though the general consensus was nervous rather than physical.

I have regular PSA tests and have done for years.
FIL in the UK has Stage 2 prostate cancer and has just been offered the chance to take part in the trial of a new drug infusion rather than radiation which if all goes well should mean he'll be fully cured. On the flip side, BIL (again in the UK) has been refused a free PSA test by his GP even though his father has PS, go figure.

Blimey, is it a a ‘post code lottery’ scenario ?
PSA tests are handy but not always accurate apparently Tim.

Yes. PSA tests are a guide not pathognomonic.

Totally agree, but they are a good starting point for further tests if necessary. My PSA test results are sent to my MT so hopefully he would contact me if he was concerned.
With regard to my FIL and BIL, the former lives in Norwich and the latter in Bristol. Whether it's a postcode lottery or not there's clearly PC in the male line so BIL's GP should have taken that into account.

Some woman who have cared for there partner with prostate issues would probably be more knowledgeable than some men.

I agree as well , I have had a blood test every year including PSA since I was 40 , I follow what could be going wrong in my body by comparing the yearly results and acting on my food intake accordingly . Since being diagnosed with low risk prostate cancer last year, I have a PSA check every 3 months .

I appreciate that my request for a girls section was not greeted with enthusiasm by all but I'm so glad I did it because it seems to have prompted you guys to open up about personal matters. Over the years I've heard so many scare stories about prostrate examinations, all of which no doubt led to lots of men not getting tested.
