I would spray it through the mesh and trim it off flush once it has hardened & then skim with enduit.
Easily done with a cartridge on a pro gun, a nightmare with an aérosol can.
Any cured expanded foam must be protected from UV once it is cut or it will degrade very rapidly, obvious case is its use around window frames, if its left looking like a turd it will last forever and a day and gradually darken to a more turd like colour but not degrade, if it is trimmed there wont be much left after 12 months, also the birds love taking it for nest material.

Just be careful you have to do it by the book, if there is a problem then the insurance will not pay out, also you could be liable, for the sake of 40€ its not worth the risk IMHO.
