We are all finding prices going up and some products shrinking in size. The baker in the CNN article below went from 900 a month in electricity costs to 7500 a month. I did read pub's in the UK are struggling as well but oil is back down and someone is still making a fortune out of it. Baguettes are getting smaller even coffee out now is a luxury ☺ we paid 8 euros on Saturday in Chaumont in dep 52 for two white coffees. edition.cnn.com/interactive/2023/03/business/french-bakeries-cnnphotos/

Well the bad news: Oil is about to go back up again - if only for a short while.

we had 2 bakers in our town, one was very good and the other pretty awful. The awful ones departed and was taken over, the good ones sold up in preparation to retire. We had noticed a decline in the good bakers bread. Their replacements were not good, but luckily the other one is great and are gradually building their business whereas the other ones struggling. Elsewhere new bakers are replacing 'old' ones everywhere with some success or otherwise, the electricity costs and 'talent' affecting success or otherwise.

Surely the bakers are just one tiny fraction of what is going on today. Every single item we see has gone up substantially in the last couple of years. These items are not all coming from Ukraine, and the roller coaster price of crude oil on the world market surely cannot be responsible. The boys at the top of the food chain are getting significantly richer by the hour. What is going on?

All other things being equal (and they rarely are) end May to end June (people have topped up if necessary at the end of the winter/spring heating season but have not started motoring in their millions in their diesel cars) or September (holiday diesel demand over and too early for people to think about filling the oil tank for winter).
The problem is that there are too many external factors that have a much bigger impact - wars, OPEC agreements, refinery outages, sudden surges or dips in industrial activity

Logically now given that the oil price per baril is below what it was prior to the Ukraine invasion, try telling that to the Station Service though!!!!
Fioul from the pump GNR (red diesel) pétrole and ClamC are now all significantly more expensive than petrol or diesel yet dont carry the huge taxation that road fuel does, what is that all about?
I wanted to run my diesel heater on ClamC, I recall when I first saw the pumps, probably 15 years ago it was 1/3 of the price of diesel, GNR was also much much cheaper now it is only E85 which is cheaper and that differential has eroded significantly, I recall Hal buying a new runabout vehicle because it could run on E85, I doubt the price difference makes it rentable now.
