Often wondered. Who on the forum holds French Citizenship, or is in the process of applying.

French since the 90s, then it took about three months now apparently it’s two or three years.

I have thought about it but wonder what advantage would it give - the passports are more expensive.

I was offered a job in a college (janny) in about 1992 but was later refused because I wasn’t of French nationality. We applied for French naturalisation for me and especially the kids so that we would have the same rights as our French neighbours. It was very useful for us but not interesting for many, including retired folk I suppose.

It's interesting to hear the motivation behind seeking French citizenship. I'm only surprised that not more forum members have come forward to confirm their status. I was always of the impression that there quite a few. But then it is early on Easter Sunday morning. Perhaps they're still holding on to that good old British tradition of having a lay in

I've never had any desire to get French citizenship, I'm English and am happy with that. I can see why people like Norfolk have gone for it but to me even having a French passport doesn't make you French especially if you were born and raised in the UK.

I have thought about it but wonder what advantage would it give - the passports are more expensive. In my view 86€ is a bargain .. compared with the cost of renewing a UK passport, which, IIRC, cost us £200 a couple of years ago. Just had a look and it was £86 each plus approx £20 each courier fee so £106 approx.

The thought briefly entered my mind back when Brexit was causing all the panic but I didn't get very far with the idea when I considered how poor my language skills are.

I am European with a British and French passport ( plus ID card) . Being accepted as a French citizen was just the logical step when living in France, it makes no difference , it just makes life easier. I recall someone saying they were very happy to be " pure English " on a different thread , I am "pure European" , speaking four languages. My wife is half German , speaks English with a yorkshire accent, so both very happy to be mongrels.

I have thought about it every once in a while. I think I'd be ok with the language tests but jumping through hoops with paperwork is a real trial for me now and I don't see any advantage at this stage of my life. Apparently the current delay is 18 months. It's funny that this thread has made me feel I might like to go for it. I don't know why! I'll always be English and going to the citizenship ceremony, having a glass of wine and saying 'Vive la France' would feel a bit uncomfortable.

Have been intending to do so and sayion I will for several years but like any administratibe task I keep putting it off; I like the idea of having 2 identities as I would Franciphlise (wrong wordà my name.
It seems the correct thing to do,
It wont be happening till I can see well enough again, sorry for typoes, I cannot see what is on the typing screen, its smaller text than the reading pane

You have to apply to be a French citizen and not just " I may " and then the French state will look at your file and then they MAY offer you the possibility of going to the interview. Firstly you have to prove that you won't be a burden on the French State. I suprised the lady at my interview by telling her that I didn't consider the Tour Eiffel to be a monument!

The only benefits I saw was being able to vote, so never bothered. We were self employed all our working life here, so no need in our case to require citizenship for work. Our Daughter is applying as she works for a French company, who say it doesn't matter as they will not get rid of her regardless of Brexit. I'm not looking for an argument but just wondering how citizenship would make it easier?

Have been meaning to for ages (been here 25 years). Have got as far as downloading some forms but that's all. It should be a little less complicated as my wife is French. Will let you know when I start and how it works out. Why ? Well it would be nice to vote and ..........
