OK. Let's assume that weep = cry. So for the other 4 letters you're looking for a measure of some sort which is short. What might the 'short' mean? That would leave the answer as the straight part of the clue - puzzling.

Ah. I hadn't considered pint. My answer was 'cryptic' as ajm suggested earlier. The measure I had in mind was also for liquid in this case gin, whisky, vodka etc; a pub optic made short by dropping the o. There was also the hint of an optic being a measure for 'short' drinks.
