Lacrosse is the only game I know with 12 players in each team. But if it's that, I'm still pretty stuck, other than it would have to drop 2 letters.

The garment is "trousers".Missing last becomes trouser which is a synonym of pocket

I see now. Thanks. I've never heard of 'to trouser' as a verb meaning to pinch or to pocket something. But that makes perfect sense.
