"quotation marks" that's all rights then. "lose" even has one letter fewer.

And just to blow cernunnos 's emigrant theory out of the water - or at least cause it to list a great deal - it seems many of those now being repatriated had gone to visit their families in Sudan to celebrate Eid for the end of Ramadan. This includes NHS doctors who were working under a work visa and now cannot get UK help to get back to work because they are not British passport holders. Yes, heard of one such doctor being removed from a rescue flight - disgusting 😡

I didn't write anything about emigrants , nor have a theory. Sometimes reality is hard. So the UK government is flying back those that were on holiday.

1500 airlifted out so far. Not bad. How many left I wonder? Perhaps the Germans will be the last! Why the Germans ? Just out of interest.

Now why would they want to do that Aardvark?? Please explain. seems like a lot of people are trying to escape Europe/France to get to the UK. Why? Of the family and friends I have remaining in UK they all would like to leave but there are as many reasons for wanting to as reasons for being unable. Losing Freedom of Movement rates high on the list. So far I haven't met anyone here desperate or unable to return. The reasons most quoted for wanting to go back are either the desire to assume life as an unpaid babysitter for grandchildren or medical reasons. And Dog knows what treatment they can expect from the NHS these days. There is a thread currently running on another expat forum (mostly Americans) discussing who has intention of moving back after living in France. Surprisingly few. And the people in both camps have plenty of cash, investments, and income so many choices are open to them.

Ignore Garbo - he never has any facts to back up his claims.

I love the sound of casseroles being banged, dinner time! I love the smell of napalm in the mornings.

Once again Jackie Spouting utter tosh!! I could use other words but will leave it at that. My point was that people are trying to escape Europe & France. If it’s so great why are they doing it? Because they want to get to a country that they think will be economically better and probably safer and less racist for them.
Taken from UK Gov Illegal Immigration Bill. Hopefully this is factual enough for you.
KEY FACTS. Over 45,700 people arrived in small boats in 2022 There were over 40,000 asylum applications in 2022 from those who arrived in the UK via small boat. There were 74,751 asylum applications (main applicants only) in the UK in 2022, more than twice the number in 2019. In 2022, there were 110,171 individuals in receipt of support, 30% higher than 2021. Over 45,000 asylum seekers are currently being accommodated in hotels located across 200 local authorities. Between 2015 and December 2022. The UK has offered a place to 481,804 men, women and children seeking safety via safe and legal entry routes.
So Jackie please explain why they don’t want to stay in Europe/France ?
