I adore ris de veau. Like lots of things, it depends on how it's cooked. My only dislike is Pomegranate.

I forgot to include raw tomatoes on my list. Cooked - yes - but raw? Think projectile vomiting.
I spent about 6 months living with a Greek family in the Greek islands when I were a lad (!). The father of the house taught English and the deal was that I would provide conversation to his students between 6 and 8pm most evenings in exchange for board and lodging.
The night I arrived there, I was touched to see that they'd prepared a welcome meal for me and a group of the neighbours - but it quickly turned into one of those 'Beam me up Scotty' moments as the buffet consisted of a hundred ways of serving raw tomatoes. As I was the guest of honour - everyone stood back as I approached the table. What saved the day for me was that I spotted some stuffed tomatoes filled with rice salad so I had something to eat. I can still picture the scene.

Many years ago my good lady, not particularly into seafood decided to treat me to a plate of winkles. This ‘surprise’ was surprising as when she went to the fridge to present them to me the little blighters were everywhere. She didn’t réalise they hadn’t been prepared for eating ! We eventually gathered them up and prepared them for eating. They were delicious but that was the last time ‘er indoors bought them !

The three things listed by nutty plus langue de veau/boeuf Me too +1 What is/are Bulots ? I think that Norfolk has given the answer as whelks. My internet search shows that they are whelks or edible sea snails. That seems to fit a few other suggestions for nightmare food.

I forgot to include raw tomatoes on my list. Cooked - yes - but raw? Think projectile vomiting. You're as bad as our DIL - she hates raw tomatoes, as does out younger granddaughter; DIL told granddaughter (now 8) from a little girl that they are the food of the devil, so of course she won't touch them! She didn't say that to our elder granddaughter (now nearly 12), who adores eating tomatoes and looks forward to the tiny ones I grow - does just what I used to do as a girl in my Dad’s greenhouse, picks and pops them in her mouth. I don’t have a greenhouse, so R just picks as she passes as they spend hours in the garden. They were both round here on Sunday and R was guessing when the first tomatoes would be ready, while E kept making revolting vomiting noises. She enjoyed us trying to count of all the tiny green tomatoes recently - 50 at that time, we decided, probably nearer 80 now. The first should be fully ripe by Friday, but you won’t want to know that, Nutty. 😀

Bulot or a similar sounding is the Breton slang for hard work, beaucoup de bulot !

Must be 30 years ago now but it was one of our very first holidays in the Pays Basque - and we were having lunch at the Buvette de la Halle, adjoining the indoor market at Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Madame ordered a tomato and mozzarella salad - and it looked so good when it arrived that I thought I must try some. As soon as I put a piece of raw tomato in my mouth, I felt my "inner sink plunger" fire up! I had to get rid of it asap in my napkin. It was a close-run thing! I can eat it if it's cooked - but raw? I was reminded of this episode today - we went out for lunch with some friends and the starter on the set menu was tomato salad. Nutty
