It's scam .. don't believe it. Sounds as though you have picked up a nasty.

Yes, agree with Sue, it sounds like you have been infected. Do you have an anti-virus?
Also try a different browser, preferably one with good protection, I prefer Firefox.

Try shutting down your router, then delete all browser history, then restart first your computer then the router. Post us if it works.

Malwarebytes is excellent for picking up stray bits of code that can cause you problems.. Download the free version first and see what you think: www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-downloadIf you have a Royal Bank of Scotland account, they'll provide you with the Premium (paid) version at no charge. Edited to add: I keep well away from MS Edge - as it is intolerant of non-MS products.

I second Nutty's recommendation re Malwarebytes. And add in my own personal go-to. This is a one-off scan by Eset. Nothing to buy. It will tell you if you have a nasty : www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/I was told about it by someone who ran (now retired) their own computer business years ago, I have used it as a go-to tool on quite a few people's computers over the years.

Many thanks Sue - in a full scan that lasted almost 2 hours, Eset found 19 threats that Malwarebytes Premium had failed to detect. Just programmed it for another full scan in a month's time. Nutty

Then it is most likely the MS July update for Win11 .. it does seem to have caused a few problems.

MS has never subscribed to the old adage: if it ain't broke, don't fix it..
They seem to favour if it ain't broken, fix it until it is.

They seem to favour if it ain't broken, fix it until it is. MS seem to send out updates which are too raw and which require 'patching' all the time. Mind you Apple seem to have fallen into the same trap recently too.
I have 2 MS laptops .. one of which is, unfortunately, Win10 - the battles I have had with some of their updates beggars belief. The other is a longtime-not-updated Win7 which staggers on and is my favourite. When my AV no longer accepts ancient machines and Firefox finally gives up on sending security updates then it will have to be Linux .. but there are so many distros to choose from

I have been using Safari on I-Pad for years and not picked anything that caused big problems with computer performance.

I've never had any problems with a W7 PC upgraded to W10 or my W10 laptop.
I tried your ESET link which found. and deleted, one item of possible interest which I recognised as something I downloaded years ago but never used.
Malwarebytes has long been my AV and that only finds a few 'pups' occasionally. Startpage with Firefox for my searches. Tutanota for emails.
