For those who want to post a link to somewhere else, there are basically two ways to do it.
The above method should be used to avoid having something like the below taking up too much space and not really indicating where it's going to go.
To achieve the text-link result, click on the Link button just above the field you're typing in:
In the box that opens, 1. type the link text you want in the top line and 2. paste the link in the second line, then 3. click Create Link - see image below:
Doing that with the long and confused link above:
gives the following result, which is much clearer:

Thanks. Not sure whether this is just the way I access the forum, but I can't get the links to open.

Could it be that the links are opening in another window/page other than the one that's in focus, ie the forum page?

@ FFS, on my Motorola smartphone with Android 11 several embedded links in my thread about the French electrical code open immediately, others don't. The pdf files - as usual - want to be downloaded first before I can open them. The picture of Sancerre in the OBR thread, a link to a photo website, is visible.
On my laptop (W10, Chrome) all the embedded links work, except one, a dead link to a no longer existing website.

FFS, an example in building/electrical: " Thierry and David have been able to reach out to a vast audience, and will continue to do so with their latest update. A must have for those who own a house in France or start renovating. And these guys keep updating, the 7th edition has been published on 4 February 2021. " The link to the 7th edition works fine and fast under W10, takes its time to open with Android 11. Return message: searching. And when I wait a little longer than before it finally opens. The links to my photos on the website picr.de show up much faster. Perhaps I've been spoiled by fast internet connections, but the time difference between W10 and Android is considerable. Normally my smartphone behaves rather snappy, faster than my laptop. Never a dull moment in IT country, always new questions on the horizon.

Thank you for that useful tip.
I use www.tinyurl.com which can also be used where the "link" facility doesn't exist.

Thank you for that useful tip.
I use www.tinyurl.com which can also be used where the "link" facility doesn't exist. A potential downside to that is people being wary of clicking on a link that gives no clue at all as to where it's going.

I nearly always convert the tinyurl to a description, not that it guarantees the link is now genuine. But then those with malicious intent can make any link look as they want it to look.
