My bank card has that sort of option. When you use it you get the option of Comptant or Crédit. I asked to have the card without that but there was no option. If you don't select correctly then you get a statement at the end of the month with payments to be made.
Intermarché have a chèque différé banner in front of the store. Une pente savonneuse IMO

We've used the Leclerc one a couple of times because it was convenient when there was a promo we wanted to take advantage of but right in between pension payments. You just have to be careful about noting the date on which the cheque will be cashed and making sure the money's there. Won't be making a habit of it, though. The latest catch in supers here is an optional donation to some charity that you have to accept/decline on the card machine. What with the choice of language and currency when using a UK-issued card, I'm seriously thinking of getting a floral pinny, wrinkly stockings and going over to cheques for good

I recall in UK that belt used to move to bring the goods within reach. Yes! People paying by cheque and they do not go looking for the cheque book until they have bagged up all the shopping. Yes!

Could you invite them round for apéros and discuss it on a friendly basis? It would give you a chance to let them know that you're within your rights Something like this will have to take place before next summer as it's causing me a lot of anxiety as well as a good few euros to get the grass cut as I just can't stand to walk past every day seeing it overgrown and no-one bothering about it. It's only small and could be such a pretty little courtyard with minimal effort if everyone did their bit. A complication is that 2 of the properties are rented out. The tenants do nothing and neither does their landlord. I've been reluctant to take the initiative in getting people together as I'm new(ish) and foreign. And according to my deeds, it's nothing to do with me!

He's not English, jardiniere....you have to make allowances I wouldn't be able to ignore it, either. Trouble is, it sounds as though the others are taking advantage of your better nature. What gets my goat is that most ecolos of whatever nationality seem oblivious to the fact that weeds (sorry, wild flowers ) don't stay confined to areas where they're considered acceptable or desirable. They spread, thrive and swamp out everything in their path. It's so not a case of 'each to their own' because those who don't like/want them don't have a choice in the matter!

I think we cut our grass twice this year .I planted apple trees ( grown from pips ) so in a few years there won't be much grass to cut .

The ecolos? Good idea ecology, also called bioecology, bionomics, or environmental biology, study of the relationships between organisms and their environment. Some of the most pressing problems in human affairs—expanding populations, food scarcities, environmental pollution including global warming, extinctions of plant and animal species, and all the attendant sociological and political problems—are to a great degree ecological.
So , thank you for the compliment !

Do you mean a diverter type belt that allows you to pack and pay why some lovely old lady places her items back in her trolley and then hunts through her handbag for her cheque book and then identity card, it happened to me two weeks ago, I was loaded up and paid for before the other transaction had started.
The customer in front of you has had the goods scanned, has reloaded the trolley, and is finding chequebook etc to pay?
Meanwhile, you have had your items scanned and have paid for them bypassing that person?
I have seen this happen once or twice in France but never in UK store being told that the tills cannot be used for a new transaction until the previous one is terminated. Perhaps some (or all?) till systems can hold a transaction whilst another is processed but stores do not use it to avoid confusion?
