One of my French coversation partners uses the words "interesting" and "important" when we speak English. His usage is always slightly off, and he's obviously thinking that interessant and important mean the same thing. When I look it up, both words have a variety of meanings, but generally not "interesting" or "important".
Bizarrely, I find it useful, because he makes it clear how versatile these words are.

Lots of faux amis in French/english....
like assist and assister.. and eventually and éventuellement.
makes for some fun misunderstandings.
