It seems Matthew Perry was quite well known. According to news reports over the past couple of days he was a cast member of a US tv series and made oodles of money from it. I recall watching about ten minutes of an episode many years ago , ten minutes was enough for me. I have never really managed to get into US tv comedy series tho’ MASH and Diff’rent Strokes were written in my opinion. As a Brit brought up with British humour I find US comedy, along with the canned laughter very difficult to appreciate. I’m obviously missing something…

Friend's, weeds, lost, the big ban theory, young Sheldon plenty of good quality entertainment comes out of America Certainly in my opinion better than EastEnders or emerdale.

This sounds akin to a barrister explaining to a crusty old High Court judge that the Beatles were " a popular beat combo, m'lud".. ' Friends' didn't do it for me either - I tried ' Seinfeld' for a few minutes once and not a flicker. However ' Cheers' was funny (IMHO).

Yes, I heard this "news" and had to go and look up who he was, and I am up to date and not some sort of crusty. I too only watched about the same amount of cheers as Norfolk did, I was not impressed and did not bother again.

Most of you are in the minority, Friends was a 'global' hit and is still pretty popular today. If you were aged between 15 and 30 in the late 90's or early 00's you watched it.
However, like many sitcoms of a certain vintage some of the comedy hasn't aged well and is fairly cringy.

Could not take to it, only one was "Taxi" found American humour, well humourless, by the look of the media this morning you would have thought someone very important had died, there are pages and pages written about him, me never heard of him, but too young to throw off his mortal coil.

Agree with Taxi, great music too. mysty, how you can compare Friends to Emmerdale etc is amazing. I don’t follow UK sitcoms either but , comedy is comedy - soap is soap. Come to think of it, I can’t actually think of many UK comedy progs that I found funny over the past twenty years or so. Obviously I’m missing even more than I thought !

Taxi, Cheers, Northern Exposure and I enjoyed watching Friends with my Daughter, didn't think I would but it beat a lot of poor British comedy, not some though as OFAH beats all.

Didn't watch Friends when it first came out but "found" it later. Loved it and still watch the repeats. Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon all good stuff.
Taxi music was by Bob James.
Older comedies on french TV, I like "H". Good non PC stuff

For me its M.A.S.H I can still watch it and enjoy it although I have seen the episodes before. But it only works for me if the laughter track is off as the Beeb used to.

American Dad and Family Guy were the only American comedies watched in our house.
