So how much of this composting law is about making it easier for private waste disposal companies, use less people, to make bigger profits.Because its me doing the sorting not them. I think we should all be capable of sorting our own rubbish. Why should someone else have to sort through our mess regardless of whether they are paid or not. And I am not sure waste disposal companies have ever sorted food waste and compostables because they have just buried it all. The problem is it is just not viable to continue to throw out the amount of stuff we do and stick it in a hole in the ground. If you mix food waste with other recyclable waste it contaminates it to the point that it cannot be recycled, and it does not break down when mixed with other waste. So, composting waste that can be composted is the best thing to do. We live in the countryside so most people compost their food waste. If you want to stick it in a plastic bag and dispose of it in the non recyclable rubbish you can but it costs around 4 euros a time. You use a card to open the bin. You get 26 openings a year included in your annual fee for waste disposal but you are billed for extra openings. Recycled rubbish is unlimited so it pays to sort your waste carefully. Let me explain, because I'm not against the tri, what I'm asking is how much extra profit will go to the waste disposal company because I've sorted the rubbish! The other question that comes to mind is those who don't live in the country what are they supposed to do?

I willingly follow your logic about who profits from us doing our own pre-sorting but there is an element of logic involved. If everything is mixed when it is collected it is much more difficult to properly sort later into recycleable materials. The best possible system is where the stuff is not mixed in the first place and kept separate. That may inconvenience the general public somewhat but certainly aids the recovery and recycling of materials that can be sold in bulk to partially help win back some savings to the council authorities. If we are lucky enough to get the benefit of those savings it is good. If the councils don't pass on the savings then there is one more thing to take to the streets and protest about.
A friend's grandson in UK worked as a bin man for a short time. He was on the lorries and went around collecting the rubbish from private housing estates. The domestic rubbish and recycleable bins were both dumped into the back of the same lorry, not kept separate. That sort of nonsense needs to be stopped.
It seems absolutely everything today is used to squeeze a profit for someone and the fashionable "eco" green movement is no exception.

We hardly produce any food waste - veg matter is composted, potato peelings are cooked up for the chicken’s who also love leftover pasta, rice and bread and veggies. They are dust bathing and fertilising the greenhouse ready for next years crops. Leftover meat is eaten by our dog. Don’t see what the problem is with the new regs tbh……

We recycle our glass, cartons, plastic bottles and cardboard but I will not separate out food waste. I remember the maggots that I saw when we put food waste separately in the U.K. so with the heat down here in the SW that’s a definite no.
