But there are signs warning about them in Hammerfest, if my memory serves me well , but it was about 10 years ago that I passed through there, but then it was dark all day!

The first time I went to the Nordkapp was when there was only the ferry to get there and it was a reasonable adventure, the second time was after they built a tunnel and with so many visitors the Nordkapp has turned into one big souvenir shop and paying heavily for entry and parking (no parking fee since 2023). I only went the second time as there was not that much to do on a day off from work apart from fishing. A winter trip to Alta is much more fun especially to visit the ice hotel rock carvings and husky races. Also a visit to Mehamn in winter (if the convoy is running) is an adventure. as for polar bears, join the polar bear club in Hammerfest and get the tee shirt.

You must have had good eyesight or they were in a zoo, there is no polar bears on mainland Norway, they are on the archipelago of Svalbard and on the surrounding ice flows, so its a bit like saying Hawaii is part of America, but I personally don't want to see one too close, ie 100Kls is near enough, I dont like things with big claws and teeth, that would like to eat me.

We didn't have time to visit a zoo, I doubt it if there was one. One night in a nice warm hotel and then off to work in the Barents sea. The sign was probably a Norwegian joke?

Reminds me of 2 Finns in a bar drinking vodka. After 3 hours of heavy drinking one Finn turns to the other and says” did you watch the ice hockey last night. The other replies “are we here to drink or to talk.

As we was going to be spending some time with the Scandinavian's I did a lot of research, they don't normally drink during the week, but on Friday and Saturday they make up for it, it seems that booze is very expensive, so they have a lot before they go out to the bars/ club (Disco for old farts). The ferry we was booked on was from Kiel to Gothenburg it is well known for them to load up the Volvo estates with cheap drink in Germany and then back on the ferry in time to party. I never knew my parents but a DNA test that our daughter persuaded me to take reviled that I was 62% Scandinavian, but I don't like roll mop herring.
