Many, many years ago when our son was only 3 years old we were on holiday at Le Bousquets de la Balme. One breakfast time we asked him what he wanted for breakfast and he asked for a croissant stuffed with bacon. Still a regular family favourite!

A lifetime ago when I lived in Germany my mum, God bless her, sent me vacuum packed bacon wrapped in a bundle of newspapers which could be posted at an especially cheap rate in those days, during my time now as a holiday home owner in France it is the one thing I used always to bring with me, but I find now I don’t actually eat that much anymore. Although having said that I was in Sainsbury’s cafe yesterday and they only had the prepackaged variety that they then heat up in a microwave type oven and it was surprisingly good for£2.65.

I enjoy the occasional bacon buttie, but my favourite breakfast, which I eat only once or twice a year is Eggs Benedict.
One summer my husband and I had an adventure working on a campsite in the Alps as campsite couriers, welcoming guests to the posh ‘sister’ of Eurocamp and cleaning the accommodation between campers. Towards the end of the season, when there were few guests, a couple arrived with a large fridge, which was unusual, as fridges were provided.
Next morning the wonderful smell of frying bacon wafted over the site and when we walked by we were invited to join the couple for a second breakfast - it was absolutely delicious 🥓. The man was a butcher, who had taken a fridge full of bacon, sausages, chops and steak with him - their meals for the week!

What's the issue with a bacon butty in France?
I can get streaky bacon (poitrine) from Super U, Lidl and stores that stock Herta brand and I can get back bacon (bacon) from Herta again. My only "complaint" is that the rashers are cut very thinly - but hey you could cook two rashers back to back.

Yes, that is the problem. They cut it so thin it is almost transparent.
