We can never really know, only believe what fits in with our personal programme and agenda.
How one can believe in the current U.K. cabinet is another story.
Though, perhaps that is a subject of a North South debate.

According to Sky news
‘ The act of stealing secret documents and leaking them either with or without modifications is a long-standing weapon of information warfare designed to undermine an opponent.‘
They will be informing people that that bears sh1t in the woods next.
This tactic seems to have spread to domestic politics.

I know this thread is a few months old but re. history. were most of you taught history or propaganda dressed up as history. The truth of Bloody Sunday is not an ancient 'event' but has never really come to be portrayed factually, even though £300 million has been sent making lawyers lots of money. I happened to be working om a construction site a few years after the event and a major discussion took place. A few ex soldiers, all of whom had bought themselves out were informing the other workers with what really took place in northern Ireland.
Up stepped a 'hoddie' "I was there, I know exactly what happened. I know I'm fick but I'm not a bloody murderer, I fired into the air". He then outlaid exactly the chain of events that unfolded. It was a set up to get the Catholics to react. None of them had weapons. The firing came from soldiers onthe walls of Derry castle, it was all prearranged. That was the signal for the public school educated capatain to give the order to fire. Up until that day the IRA was an organisation of the past. Peace is not good for the armaments industry but war is. The hoddie said he had offered to give testimony on 3 occasions - he was never called to give evidence, that would have blown the cover of the establishment/arms industry set-up.
Decades later my wife and I were returning from a day out in London and happened to sit opposite a documentary film maker. Mentioning this tale he asked if I could get in touch with this hoddie/hod carrier as he was about to start production on a documentary about Bloody Sunday. Of course I couldn't it was too far in the past. He told us how often his phone was illegally tapped and he used an old secret service trick of putting a hair across a door opening to know how often the gooks entered his home, he was always checking for listening devices.
Culloden - the torture and murder of wounded men on the battle field or the executions that took place afterwards. Sending men as slaves into the west Indies or the American colonies. The mass rape of women and young girls. How some on learning they were pregnant killed themselves or when the baby was born killed it 'not wanting to bring a monster into the world' - didn't teach us any of that at school.
We are all history, we are our ancestors, everything they did - we are. Some try to intellectualise themselves away from the facts - it's nothing to do with me - doesn't work.

you do talk bolleaux 'capatain'. Your replies say a lot about you. The hoddie said he wasn't intelligent but he did know right from wrong. I wonder what you did/do for a living. After my father came back from North Africa he found himself stationed in a POW camp in Essex. Towards the end of the war the Austrians and Germans were shown newsreels of the death camps. He told me of the serious fights that broke out afterwards between those who knew about the death camps and accepted the truth and those who did not. When the Kenyans fought for their independence they were branded 'terrorists' in the UK papers. I remember one day going to get the Mirror for my father and the Daily Hate for my mother, it's readers are predominately female. The headline is seared in my memory Mau mau kill three farmers. All the papers carried stories about the terrible atrocities carried out by the 'savages'. What never appeared anywhere in the Papers or on the TV in the UK were the concentration camps, where the British deliberately introduced deceases that killed over 80,000 men and boys or the rapes carried out with rifles and bayonets. The governer general said "there will be hell to pay if this ever gets out back home". Or the executions in villages of women sitting on the ground with babies in their arms. First they shot the women then they shot the babies. Denial syndrome - has an ugly face. Edit : This post has been edited to remove insults.
