We have just gone through the most traumatic experience ever.... Our top showjumping mare, Ulina, took colic on Saturday morning and had to be PTS on Sunday...we are totally devastated. She was the most beautiful, kind and giving mare we have ever owned. She wasn't easy as a youngster, but over time and with lots of patience my daughter developed such a special bond with her that they were unbeatable at the shows. She was so special that we were determined to have a foal from her, in the hope of having another to replace her when she was past her best. We've tried for 3 years to do an embryonic transfer from her and this year we had a success with the foal due in late April 22. We never imagined that Ulina would be gone and never see her daughter born...

All horses are totally lovable, but when you develop such a close bond with such a talented and generous horse they have a very special place in your heart. I hope in time, you and your daughter will be comforted by the birth of Ulina's foal and the very special gift she has given to you. Hugs to you all.

Crystal, I'm so very saddened by this news and never even met the lovely Ulina so can't imagine how awful this is for you and your family. So sorry.

So sad Crystal, even more so that she won't see her daughter, her legacy.

My most sincere condolances Chrystal.
We've had a dog & cat PTS'd through mainly old age problems but when our one day our favourite fit & healthy horse took ill with colic & the next day had to be pts I thought I'd never stop crying. No words can help but thinking of you.

I was so sorry to read your shocking news, Crystal. You recently told us about the joy of having a successful transfer of Ulina’s foal, and now this dreadful news - you and your daughter must feel devastated that this has happened to your lovely mare. Ulina will have a special place in your hearts for the rest of your lives, and as spring approaches I hope you’ll be able to look forward to the birth of her foal with less sadness.

Such sad news, at this moment it will be hard for you to take it in. You have wonderful memories and as Veem has said, hopefully, in time, you'll be comforted by the special gift from Ulina that thankfully took after so many tries.

My sympathys to you also Crystal. It's hardly bearable when that happens. For me, I am lucky, my mare gets colic every year when she gets her first taste of hay. I see her laying down in the field as if dead and know I am in for a few days heaving her up and walking her up the mountain to exercise her gut. Once up and about she is quite spritely and walking fast, it wears me out. It takes about 4 days to get her drinking again. Obviously not as serious as your mare, but days of worry every year.
